Default New to Diabetes, not new to PCOS

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one who was fortunate enough to stumble upon a PCOS diagnosis (not that I like this or anything, but it's helpful to have a name to put to all the stuff going on), and then in less than one year be diagnosed (by the same doctor) as diabetic?

I just found out this afternoon that my blood test results from yesterday (fasting insulin, glucose & 1 hr and 3 hr glucose tolorance tests clearly indicate diabetes). Quite frankly, I just need to vent for a moment, as I thought last month that my labs were improving . Now my RE is strongly telling me to see my primary doc to confirm the diagnosis/offer nutrition and lifestyle counseling, etc. I feel so very alone and like I'm about ready to cry over the whole thing...not that tears would help, but no one in my family understands the whole PCOS thing, and I am afraid to bring up the latest because I know they'll start with the whole "it's my fault and I should just eat better/exercise more, etc." I thought I was doing so good with watching my diet (lost a few pounds and was starting to feel better). If anyone has any tips for how to cope, please let me know.

Thanks!

Default It's not your fault

So don't let anyone say it is.

I have type 2 diabetes, but I could have had it for up to 5 years before I found out. I was going to an OB dr that is a 6 hour drive away. Anyway he took blood to see if I was in menopause (dah... I knew that already). But because he checked hormones, I also thought he was checking everything in the blood. Next time I saw him he checked something else ...

Nope. That's all he checked. Just a singular item here 'n there

When he changed his office policy & checked more in the blood, he found the blood sugar was quite high; AND the cholesterol numbers were high, too. In fact they said I was 8.9 at risk for heart attack.

Well, to jump ahead.

I've learned that this has an autoimmune aspect to it. And that I must have Syndrome X in which you put weight on in the stomach area and the cholesterol numbers are bad.

So, I would like to loose weight too. 70 lbs would be about right; but if I can't do it right, I'm going to skip it. What's the point in being a yo-yo dieter.

Is there any help for stopping the immune system from becoming autoimmune? PCOS is also an autoimmune metabolic disorder; and maybe some of these syndromes 'cluster' together. It appears so from the little I've learned about it.

I do suspect a chemical for causing autoimmune issues to a large degree in our nation in the past 75 years: including 'gulf war syndrome' and CFS, CFIDS, many, many things

There is so much you can learn from your blood. And if the doctors would look past the 'ok' they get on the CBC ... and find out whether the red blood cells are mostly immature and whether or not there is blood in urine, we might find the culprit, 2-butoxyethanaol

Now, if you have a direct exposure, you'll think you have the flu; but it is NOT the flu.

You can get direct exposure, you can get indirect expsoure and you can get some of the effects (but not all) here 'n there as a birth defect from parents who have been chemically poisoned by it. I suspect this for this birth defect

I am just an ordinary person who has spent a lot of time looking into the harm of this chemical, because someone in my family was harmed by it.

I now suspect it for causing many, many autoimmune issues for many, many people.

HUGS JennB76. I got the triple whammy all in one day...Syndrome X, PCOS, and diabetes. So, believe me, I understand the guilt and fear and shock that you're probably feeling.

First of all, it's NOT YOUR FAULT! It's hereditary. You've got a defective gene.

Second, you can treat it and manage it. Talk to your doctor about meds and look into some natural remedies. (My 14-pills-a-day regime is listed in my siggie.) Get a glocometer and diligently check your bs a couple times a day and learn what those numbers means about how the diabetes is working in your body. And do some reading about the different carb-focused diets. The IR Diet helped me learn how to balance my carbs and now I'm doing Protein Power and keep my carbs to about 30 a day. It's made a HUGE difference in my bs numbers and how I feel.

Three, you're not alone. Even if you're family and friends don't understand what you're going through and want to play the blame game...remember you've always got Cysters.

You're gonna be fine, Jenn. You're a survivor.

Thank you so much...your reminder helps so much more than you could know. I know that as long as sc is aound, I'm not alone. This site has done so much to let me know I'm not alone in fighting this, and that there are others out there going through the same thing.
