I was diagnosed with mild PCOS last week. I have been on birth control since I was about 15 years old (am 30 now). I decided to get off in May of last year. At first my cycles seemed normal. But then they became very long - averaging 35-38 days and only bleeding for 1 or 2 days. I only spotted in December which prompted a doctor's appointment. Dr. drew some blood (hemoglobin, tsh, prolactin) and all came back normal. She suggested I go see a GYN. So, I went last week for a trans-vaginal ultrasound to be told that yes, indeed, my right ovary is the classic PCOS ovary. Also, had blood drawn - testosterone came back at 69.

Apparently I do not have IR - but I have started a low carb/no sugar diet this week - I am not sure if that's what I'm supposed to do or whether or not that will help my symptoms - can any of you tell me?

My husband and I have an appointment with an acupuncturist tomorrow to discuss other options besides getting back on birth control to control weight gain, etc.

I am about 10-15 pounds overweight and have ALWAYS been that way. I am 5'4 and 155lbs. I would really like to get down to 140lbs but as you all know losing weight is very difficult. I do Crossfit 4-5 times a week. I am hoping with a low GI, zone diet, I will start seeing a difference.

Welcome! I am a newbie as well. I do have IR, but low GI is working for me. I don't know how it will work for you, but good luck and welcome!
