Default New and frightened

I am brand new to PCOS as well as this website. I just got back from my Dr appointment where I was told that if my HcG test doesn't come back positive that I have PCOS. My DR is so confident in the fact that I have PCOS I already have the script for Provera sitting in my purse.

How I found out:
My husband and I have been TTC since last year, but have started to push the issue big time in the past few months. I haven't seen AF since January of this year. I figured it wasn't because I got off BC because I actually got off BC in June of 06. I figured I'd need a little bit of time to readjust, but this is bad.

I've been on mommy boards for a while now and I know that TTC with PCOS isn't easy, but it does happen. I'm just really worried because I don't want to sink my kid's savings into fertility meds instead. As silly and selfish as that sounds.

The people I know with PCOS that tried to have kids have had miscarriages. Is that really all that common? I really want to not work myself up SO much that I think that I'll never have kids... So I figure I'll ask here.

I'm happy to have found you all! Thank goodness this place exists!

Hi there and welcome!

I'm TTC my first as well. Your Provera.. is it a short prescription just to get AF kick-started, or a longer-term thing? I had the short-term Provera a few months ago, and it did the job.. I had quite an AF that month, but nothing since, unfortunately.

As far as miscarriages are concerned, from what I understand, it is more common in PCOS women, but hardly inevitable. Also, I understand that taking Metformin cuts the chance of miscarriage down to a rate similar to non-PCOS women.

Hope to see you around the boards!

I've got a 10 day script for provera. I'm not looking forward to the nasty AF that's coming my way, but that's better then nothing at all. I have to wait to hear back from the Dr about the HcG test and everything else before I can start that anyways. Thanks for the little bit of relief.

I have had PCOS (undiagnosed) for many years now. For most of that time I was on the pill, so it masked a lot of the symptoms. I have 2 children.

Before I got pregnant with each of them, I had some minor problems. At the time I attributed it to coming off of the pill, but now I know that it was most likely due to PCOS.

With my daughter, after I stopped the pill, I had one period and then went for like 3 months without one. They gave me Provera and the next cycle I got pregnant. With my son I stopped the pill, had one period and then it never ended. I bled off and on but mostly on for 2-3 months straight. They again gave me Provera and I was able to get pregnant the next month. With both of them I charted like a crazy woman, and I think that probably increased my chances quite a bit.

I have never had a miscarriage, I did have a rough pregnancy with my son, but with my daughter it was fairly normal. Good luck! ((hugs))

Hi!! I'm pretty new here too! I stopped bcp in November and never got AF either. I thought, oh, give it some time to work its way out of my body. Well, come last month I finally decided that something really wasnt right! HPT were negative and I still had no AF! Needless to say, I was dx with PCOS and my doctor believes I've had this for a while, but the 8 years of BCP masked the symptoms I now have. I was given Provera first and about 4 days after my last pill AF came! It was a heavy, cramping one, but I guess what did I expect after not having one for a while. Good luck to you and if you need someone to talk to, don't hesitate to message me!!! I'm pretty new too!

Just wanted to say hello and welcome. I used the provera last month, after not having a period in about 18 months. It was'nt as bad as i thought it would be, just what i would consider a normal period, not overly long and heavy. Good Luck!

wanted to say welcome.

not all treatments for PCOS are expensive... many women here have regulated their cycles and started ovulating just by taking metformin. Others use natural remedies... for me it was a combination of meds, exercise, low-carbing.

Good luck TTC... come check out the ttc boards...there is a lot of information.

That is really good news actually.

I'm already finding my way into the TTC forums! I just have to wait until I get all my meds straightened out before we start TTC again!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcomes!
