I am new to this...but thought I would just introduce myself...My name is Katie and im 24. I was just diagnosed with PCOS last month. I guess I am still not sure what to think about it. My doctor told me I need to lose some weight, that is probably the most difficult part for me. I used to be very thin and had no problem with weight. But in the past year I just packed on the pounds. My doctor told me to follow the south beach diet and I did...for about 2 weeks...then I went back to old eating habits and now I can't get back on my diet. I definately don't excerise like I should so I guess that is probably half my problem. I feel like I have no self control when it comes to food. Chocolate and fast food call my name. My family gets on me all the time telling me I need to watch what I eat since I have a higher risk of developing diabetes now. I thought maybe if I joined this site it may help me a little bit. I am not taking any medication for PCOS only an anti-depressent pill. Anyway...that is just a little bit about me...I look forward to chatting with you ladies in the future!

this is my first time on this site as well. I am glad that there is a site where we females can actually chat about this. because when u r talking to other women, they have no idea what u r talking about and then they give u a very polite reply, but u could see the "deer in the headlight" stare as u conclude your conversation about it. together we wll get through this, and if there is anything that i could think of to share with u, or anyone else for that matter than can help us all, i will make mention of it ok.. so take care of yoursrlf

Don't feel badly about having difficulties with the SBD, or any new eating plan for that matter. We all have difficulties and struggle with the changes that might help us get healthier. I've recently started a similar eating plan, the low GI diet, and I have the hardest time resisting those tempting carbs when I'm out with friends.
I invite you to check out the Diet and Exercise threads, especially the GI Diet and Eating Low-GI in June threads to get support, ideas, and commiseration for those on new eating plans. I think there are specific SBD threads too, so check those out. I know there's a SBD buddies thread, so maybe you could find someone to support and who can be your cheerleader. I think almost every single poster on the GI diet thread has made an oops, but has gotten back on program.

My Mood: Points: 176.53 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 176.53 | DC girl for the first time Hi and Good day to all. I am new to this site as i mentioned b4 in another post. I live in NJ and i am 31 years old. I dont have any kids yet, and based on what i have been reading, i am glad to know that it is not an impossible feat at my age. I am married but not currently with my husband as he is overseas. I think the hardest problem that i have faced with having this diagnosis is the facial hair. Like i feel so unhappy when i look in the mirror and i c my chin full of hair (i often muse y cant my hair on my head grow as fast or grow at all) anyway now that i have joined this site, i know that i am not alone, and i am sure that everyone will share new and exciting tips with me.. so thanks in advance for all the info and support i know that i will receive. After graduation I got lazy and didnt stay active but kept the same eating habits. The lbs just started to pack on I did loose 100lbs about 4 years ago, that is when I met hubby and then once we got married we both gained weight and I gained the majority of that weight back. We are working on it now, but it is hard to get started and stay on track. It is a constant battle every day But the benefits are so great! I feel SO MUCH better physically and mentally when I am dieting and know I am loosing weight. Doesnt make that chocolate any less tasty though Just have to keep thinking about how good it feels to loose and be thinner. |

Rebecca-Louise | I am far from perfect when it comes to dieting but what I have found is "all sorts of diets" simply dont work! The key for me is a change of lifestyle. Hubby keeps saying we are dieting and I correct him by telling him we are not dieting... this is just our new life! We do not deprive ourselves completely, we still go out to eat once a month, occassionally get ice cream or snacks, but only once a month or so as a TREAT, not a daily part of life. We have good (but healthy and smaller portions) meals, we do not keep unhealthy snacks in the house, we no longer eat fast food (which saves a ton of money too!), use low fat/healthier things when we can, I cook with fat free/calorie free butter, etc... It really does help!!!
It seems like all of the fad diets may work for some people but not as a permanent fix. Eating healthier and exercising is the best option. Now if I can just follow my own advice as I do not exercise near enough! |
