Default new to this group

Never did I dream there would be a group for lesbians with PCOS, but I guess there is a group out there for everyone. I am 43 and this past weekend I experienced a hemorraging episode that I am still recovering from. I normally have periods anywhere from 1-4 times a year. I currently take synthroid, glucophage, 2 diff. hypertension meds, potassium, and several gastric meds. I think the worst part for me at the moment is the thought of another painful procedure, {the doc did a mini d and c in the er over the weekend that was extremely painful}. He is saying that my options are a one day surgery involving a hot balloon {sounds odd} and if that doesn't work, then a hysterectomy. I get depressed lying around and the hysterectomy option would certainly throw me into a depression with the 4-6 week recoup time. My partner is very nurturing and understanding, almost too much so....I don't want to let her take care of me unnecessarily. Any experience with this or words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Hi Donette,

I'm also new to this group and was thrilled to find a message board for lesbians with PCOS.

I hear you about wanting to avoid invasive and painful procedures if possible. Would your insurance let you seek a second opinion? Most doctors will try to avoid doing a hysterectomy if they can.

It's great that your partner is supportive--whatever happens, that will make a huge difference.

Hang in there!

Hi, I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing, but a few years ago I had a procedure done where they inserted a balloon in my cervix to dialate it, which was very very painful, then they sprayed water in my uterus and scraped it out. The only thing is, the ballon broke 2 times. Each time they had to pick the pieces out of my uterus. It was very painful, and I bled for about 3 weeks afterward. They did this all with no pain meds or anestetic ( i dont know how to spell that) I know this isn't any help at all to you, but I just wanted to share my experience with you. Just know that you'll find tons of support on this site and we're here for you any time!!!

OH, by the way, I'm originally from iowa too. What part are you from? Mason City area here.
