Default New here

My girlfriend was recently diagnosed with this and unfortunately I didnt take it too well. We were trying to have kids when she found out and I took my anger out on her.

We have managed to sort things out but now Im at a loss on how to help her. She told me that she has had a lot of support from this site and she told me I could be a member too, so here I am.

How did you other guys take the news, hopefully a lot better than me! Do any of you have any suggestions on how I can be supportive to her and help her through this without hurting her anymore than what I already have?

Default Welcome to the club

Greetings Vincent,
You have taken the first step in trying to help her. The best thing you can to is educate yourself on PCOS.
There are some books in the Newbie that are suggested reading. I would recommend starting there.
When I found out that she had PCOS, I did not really understand what that meant. I have since educated myself and life is a lot easier, and yes I was freaked out when I started to understand.
Just remember this is something she does not want to have, and she has little choice in the matter. If you have questions, post on this site. The Cysters are always willing to answer as best they can.

Hey Vincent! Welcome to the hubbies forum & SoulCysters! I have to second Rhoadie on this one... there are a couple of really good books- PCOS: The Hidden Epidemic, Dr Samuel Thatcher, and Living with PCOS by Angie Best-Boss. The Thatcher book is a really well-written book, has a lot of very difficult concepts put in a way that is understandable.

In terms of getting a diagnosis for PCOS & my DW, well, honestly? It was more of a relief that we had a name to go with the symptoms. Was the kind of thing like, we knew something was wrong, but didnt have a Dx for several years.

In any case, if you have questions or need help dealing with anything (whatever, very little is out-of-bounds here) we're all here to help each other as we can.

Best of luck, and let us know how things are going-

I will check out those books, thank you for the recommendation. We are having a rough time right now. My girlfriend has been in pain for four days and after doctors and hospital visits they still cant say whats wrong. She is doped up on drugs and in agony. I want to just make it better but even just hugging her causes more pain!

I had a serious urge last night to punch the hospital doctor when he basically said she was making it all up. She doesnt lie and she certainly doesnt make things like this up.

I guess sometimes being supportive is just watching but it is driving me mad seeing her like this.

Just needed to vent my anger.

Vincent.

Default Pain?

Vincent-

Where is your g/f at in her treatment, and did she have tests done that cause her pain (a biopsy or something) or is it PCOS related pain? If it's biopsy related pain, might try a Rx does of motrin (like 800mg) ..... but I'm no doctor, so take my advice w/ a grain of salt.

In terms of the doctors, I dont know what to tell you.... that really sucks.

Let us know how you (and your gf) are doing.. and if theres anything we can do to help yall.
