I am new here and am looking forward to talking to other women with the same problem. I do not know anyone else with PCOS; no one in my family has it except me. Though i do not have any sisters one brother who of course has 6 children. My husband does not happen to be the best listener (he has ADD).
I started having problems when I was 22-years-old with sudden weight gain. I gain weight so fast my mom thought I was pregnant. When I went to the doctor he told me to quit drinking soda. Then I started skipping periods (can't tell you how many preg. tests I went through), I have always been regular. When I went to the doctor he told me it could be due to stress.
I knew there was something wrong with me, so I went to a new Dr. He diagnosed me with depression. Which I was because of the weight gain and now also facial hair. He put me on medication for depression, which did help; I just didn't feel anything.
When I got engaged I went to Weight Watchers to try and lose some of the extra weight. I lost about 5 lbs. in 4 months. Since that was obviously not working I quit. After I got married and was still missing periods more frequently, my mom gave me a book called The Sugar Solution. In it there was a chapt. on PCOS; when I read the symptoms I thought "this book is talking about me." My cousin recommended an ob/gyn to me. When I went to see him I let him run blood tests and ultrasounds, waiting to see if he would diagnosis me with what I already thought I had and he did. He put me on metformin and Clomid. I had to ask what each of these medications were for. I got pregnant on the first try with Clomid, but miscarried after a month.
After the miscarriage I was a lot worse with mood swings and my husband and I almost got divorced. We work things out thankfully. But unfortunately we have had another miscarriage. It has been a year since the last miscarriage and we would like to try again, but I am too scared to go through another loss.
I've been trying to find other ways to treat symptoms of pcos but other than the metformin have had no luck.
