Hey there, my name is Sammy..I just turned 19 and was diagnosed a few days ago with PCOS. I have read through numerous threads of yours and let me tell you I have learned so much..! Reading your experiences and thoughts have helped me cope with the idea of having PCOS. Thanks!!
Before being diagnosed, I had heard about PCOS on Diagnoses Unknown one night and I had most of the same symptoms as this women, so I researched a little bit and gave up after being told I was full of sh*t.!! Then my boyfriend brought it back to my attention after noticing that I had alot of the same things his ex had who happened to have been diagnosed when they were together. So I went on 3/22 and talked to my gyno, he ordered a vaginal sonogram, and alot of blood test. I stopped taking birth control all together, like I was told and waited out the 3 weeks. I went on the 12th and had the blood work, but he went ahead and diagnosed me after seeing that my ovaries were COVERED in cysts..ahh!! He said I was clearly born with this. So I had the option of continuing BCP or taking Met. I chose Met, being that I have been on numerous different BCP over the past 3 years and nothing has changed, and my Doc agreed. I am finally content now that I know there is a condition explaining all the weird stuff that my body does now! But what I do not understand is that I had a vaginal sonogram when I was 16, and I dont understand why they didnt see the cysts or something. And after going to the gyno after that I was told that my body had NEVER released any eggs on its own. So I was put on BCP's then..!!!

Yeah, My GYNO at age 17 just put me on BCPs saying she'd put most of the girls at my stupid private school on BCPs just to regulate them - ha! what a crack of ****! I can't believe my mother and I were just like "uhhh okay" without finding out more about all the weird symptoms. But, I'm glad too many years later I found some other docs and was diagnosed (I hadn't heard of it - I sorta put health stuff on the back burner, bad bad bad) - and then found out I shouldn't ever have taken or ever take BCPs in the future because of blood clotting mutation disorders (thanks family). So yeah, You will find tons of info on the site, have fun!

Welcome to SC! I was put on BCP for a decade because my Dr claimed it would be benefit me... Not telling me what in the world he meant by that. I got off the pill in July 2006 and my husband and I had been trying to have a wee one since November. I finally got angry enough that I went to the Dr to find out that TA DAAAA I had PCOS.
You're not alone in the ignorant silly Dr syndrome LOL.

Just wanted to say hello and welcome. It took me a long time to get diagnosed as well, even though i had so many symptoms for so many years. It is a relief to finally know that so many of my symptoms are caused by one thing. Good luck with treatment.
