Default New Here!

Hi All,

I am so happy to see there's an adoption part of this board!

I am new here, but I have been an adoptive mother for 3 years. We adopted my 10 year old son out of foster care, and he is considered special needs.

I am willing to answer any questions on this forum or in PM's if anyone needs help or has questions.

Very nice to meet you Amy, I work with special needs children. Was foster to adopt difficult? Did you want an older child?

We did want an older child. Babies weren't a dream of ours but CHILDREN were.

Was it difficult? More than I ever imagined! Was it worth it? Yes.

Amy,

Just the person I'm looking for! We have just begun our adoption journey and had the first interview with our social worker yesterday to turn in our home study paper work. We are looking to adopt an older child from foster care (3-7yrs old) and she gave us several online courses to take and books to read about the special needs of older children. She gave us a worksheet that has a few questions on it and we are supposed to find someone who has adopted an older child and discuss with them their experiences to complete to worksheet. Would I be able to PM you with the questions sometime? We have people around us who have adopted, but they brought their children home as infants and I know that is a very different experience.

I would be so thankful for your help and would love to hear your story!

Thanks,

Jessica

Hi there! We also foster adopted a sibling group! The oldest was 6 at the time... it was frustrating, but the most rewarding thing I've ever done!
