Hi

I found out about having PCOS during Easter holidays. I lived in the Philippines for 10 years and started my period when I was 10. It was never regular and i kept going back to the doctor. I kept meeting my mums friends that always advised me to go and get it checked out. But they kept telling me I was really young. I'd been having lower abdomin pains randomly for about a year and it came to the point that i was having them regularly. I felt it once before i went to see my parents for easter and it was so bad that i went to the doctor. She did a urine test and said nothing was wrong. So I thought maybe it was something to do with my period so just ignored it and took some paracetamol. then after while i was on holiday it happend after my period and i couldn't stand the pain. So my mum brought me to the doctor and the said I needed to go see an OBGYN. so I did and they did all these tests and found out i have polycystic ovaries. I was so confused and i am still confused now. the did a hormonal test and i have an imbalance so been put on metformin now for my PCOS. When i found out it explained so much that i had been through in my life. They said that it shouldn't be causing me pain but I also had a bad infection. So was put on antibiotics. HAs anyone else experienced these pains?? I moved to the UK three years ago and i gained 2 stone in this space and i have so much trouble loosing it. My hair fall sout so bad. I have acne problems. Just everything. I feel like sometimes i dont get the support I need here in the UK. When I came from Holiday, I went out and the pains started again. I couldn't stand up and my friend whos a student nurse said that she thinks i need to go to the hospital. So iwent and stayed for 8 hours while they said that the antibiotics hadn't taken away the infection. I went to the doctor that friday because my doctor abroad said that i should tell my gp. I told her everything and she wasn't supportive at all. She said that 50% of women have it and i shouldn't have gone to A and E. She made me feel like crap and I haven't been able to go back since. Does anyone know of any doctor in manchester uk that I can get some good help with? Do you think I should go and find another doctor or should i just wait and see for the results. My doctor abroad has said that i shold take metformin for 3 months and stop and see if my period comes by itself. I dont get my period if i dont take my pill.

Sorry for rambling on so much. I haven't come across a site like this for support and you don't know how much it means to me as i always think im going through this by myslef!

thanksxxxx

Welcome beachluva,

The ladies here are great. I don't know about the UK, but we had a thread called cysters around the world. You should try to find out there. I am going to try and put the link here.

Hey Beachluva welcome to SC !!

I would say that you do need to find another GP ASAP its completely unacceptable to be dismissed like you have !! I don't understand why you should be in pain and what kind of infection you have ? as far as I am aware PCOS should not cause the kind of abdominal pains that you have been experiencing (or at least I have never experienced any thing like that), maybe you should post about your pains in the problem board and see if some one can relate to you ?? but I really would find another GP !!

Welcome to SC!! l'm sorry to hear that your GP wasn't at all helpful or supportive, and while l don't know of any docs in the UK, l would definitely recommend looking for a new one!! Good Luck!
