Question New Here - ? about cost

Hello All,

I'm new here and was just diagnosed in June. I'm supposed to be starting Metformin in the fall (we took a TTC break this summer).

I'm very concerned about the cost because my insurance will not cover fertility prescriptions. Is anyone paying out of pocket for Metformin? What does it cost you?

Metformin is not considered a fertility treatment...it's used to treat insulin resistance. I don't think you will have a problem getting your insurance to cover it.

Like Nicole said, it is not a fertility medicine. It is for diabetis and IR, so you will not, or well, should not, have a problem with insurance paying for it.

To check out of pocket prices check out your pharmacies website. I know that Walgreens and CVS post their prices. But I cannot imagine that you'd have to pay for them full price. GL.

Like they said it is not a fertility treatment. It is also not very much money. I am on 1000mg a day and if I were to pay full price it would only be like 20 bucks a month. That is at wal-mart. some INS consider it a tier 1 drug so most of the cost they pay for. My ins pays for my met. I dont have to pay a penny for it. I hope that you can be as lucky. Good luck

Thanks for your help, everyone! This is a great site, and I hope to be spending more time here. It's far more appropriate for me than PregnancyWeekly, where I usually hang out.

I will check out my pharmacy's website.

I agree with everyone...since it's not a fertility med you shouldn't have any problem. I pay $8 at WalMart pharmacy for mine.

I am getting mine through The Medicine Shoppe and it is $7.00 a month. I am on 2000 mgs a day.

I just started getting it through the mail through my hubby's drug insurance carrier - it is $17.00 for three months of met at 2000 mgs a day.

I think it is a great deal!

Have a good day everyone!

Hey guys-
I just got mine tonight and without my insurance it would be 19 something for a month of 500mg tablets. Thankfully my health insurance covers it for the time being. Thankfully my state has a great state insurance otherwise I would be living with this with no pills!!!

Hey,

I started taking metformin at the start of June 2006, i got 5 scripts from the doctor.
For a box of 100 tablets i paid $4.70 (australian). But Im unemployed and on a healthcare card...so im not sure what you pay if your not on health card.

Good luck!
