Default New on here. Advice Pls!

Hi All,

My name is Anna and I am 26 and live in London England.

I am new on here. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2005 although I have always had regular periods, so much so that you can set your watch to them - they are also extremeley painful and VERY heavy. I understand that not alot of people with PCOS get this and its normally the other way round (not ovulating and being irregular etc?) However I do suffer with all of the other symptoms such as unwanted hair growth, acne and most importantly not being able to shift excess weight.

My doc put me on Metformin when I was diagnosed with PCOS and I suffered with extreme nausea. I started on the 500mg x 1 daily, then the next week x 2 daily and then up to 3 ext. However I could never get up to the 3 times a day dosage as I was feeling so ill with it. I have decided to give it another go as I really need some help with losing weight, and although I know it isn't the answer and it isn't going to help me on its own - I am trying to diet and have joined a gym. But I am up to week 2 of taking this horrid tablet and I am feeling very sick again. I am at work and I just want to lie down.

I just wanted to know if anyone else has suffered with the nausea like me, and how they got round it. Does it subside after a while?? (someone please tell me it does) As I really want to maintain it this time - afterall I do want kids someday and it is supposed to help in that area.

Any help and advice much appreciated!!

Thanks!

I've been very fortunate that i have'nt had any of the gi side effects with met. I know a lot of people do though, you may want to check out the metformin thread, you'll probably find a lot of answers there, good luck.

I took Glucophage (same as Metformin) and ended up calling it Poopoophage or Pukophage, depending on the days and was never able to go up to more than one a day, so I switched to Avandia. Everyone else was doing fine on Met after a couple of weeks...not me, so you're not alone. Maybe you can try another one, but I know Avandia doesn't make you loose weight, but if it regulated insulin resistance, you'll be able to loose weight a bit easier with diet and exercise I think.
Hope it helps

When I started Met, I wasn't too sick, but I did still feel all day long nausea for the first couple of weeks. I have been on Met for about a month now, I have lost about 18 pounds and counting, I still get the nausea feeling from time to time, but it doesn't last very long.
Good Luck!!!

I was diagnosed by lab tests in February of this year...my Doctor wanted to see me again in May if I still hadn't gotten my period (last one was very light in February), which I still have not. I want to ask about what the best meds and procedures are for me. I am relatively thin, (5'2, 110 lbs) have minimal excess hair, but have continuous on and off pms symptoms (headaches, cramps, mood swings-depression). I have not had an ultrasound yet either and hope that my doctor will suggest this. I would like to go in prepared with what meds I think I should be on. ANy advice? metformin? Spiro? Birth control pills? I had been on bcp for 5 years because of excessively heavy periods but am worried about being able to get pregnant down the road. All of this seems very scary right now. Please help!
