Hi Everyone. I am currently undergoing a workup for PCOS with a Reproductive Endocrinologist. I had testing done a number of years ago but no definitive diagnosis since my labs were normal and my U/S was normal also. I was told to come back when I wanted to get pregnant. I ended up conceiving on my own after a year of trying so I never went back. I have all the symptoms except hair loss and skin tags. My symptoms started in adolescence. I am feeling worse and need some help so I decided to get a consultation with a new doctor. I am undergoing testing and have a follow-up in a few weeks but I am really anxious to know if my labs now seem suggestive of PCOS. I have a copy of them. I'll just post the abnormals.
Testosterone 55 (high)
Free Testosterone 6.5 (high)
LDL cholesterol 139 (high)
TSH 4.39 (high) just prescribed Levoxyl over the phone per the nurse
Also, my 3 hr GTT with insulin levels was normal. However, a separate Insulin level of 14.8 was reported as high. This was off of the same blood draw. I don't get that since the fasting insulin on the GTT was 6.
Any insight would be appreciated. I am glad to have found this board. There seems to be so many knowledgeable cysters here. Thanks in advance.
Welcome to SC~ This site is absolutely wonderful and has been very helpful to me. My opinion is that your tests are suggestive of PCOS, however other conditions must be ruled out first. This is just my opinion, and it is a good thing your doctor is on top of things, and has you scheduled for more. Good luck, and keep me posted.
~hugs~

Thanks everyone, for the warm welcome. I guess I'm just anxious about my test results and I hate waiting! They sure do take alot of blood for a PCOS workup, 9 vials the first time around! Thanks again.
Hi there, and welcome! I am another newbie here, but I am finding alot of advice, sympathy, and general "cyster stuff" here. It's nice to have people who understand the issues, that is for sure!
I've got some more lab results, but I won't be getting the til the end of November. Talk about driving me crazy! But at least I know that the labs I have had done indicate my body being completely whacked out. Why is that so darn comforting? I don't know--maybe cause now I know it's not cause I am lazy, or imagining things, or that it is something else completely.
All that to say, WELCOME!
ANd I hope that whatever treatment you have works well, quickly, and solves the problems you are having asap!
Your labs look like to me you have high testostrone levels, Hypothyroidism, & Insulin Resistance.
I too had the same symptoms as you, and I did have NORMAL U/S no cysts at all, a Normal HSG, which is where they look in your tubes for blockage.
I was DX with Hypothryoidism 1st in 1999, The high testostrone for me was taken care of by taking Glucophage XR and losing 45lbs, I was DX PCOS in 2000 I have gone on to have 3 children with my DH and are planning a 4th we do have a total of 5 children together, One his, which I adopted, One Mine which DH adopted and our 3 together, and we are TTC #6.
To me it sounds you are on the right track with the Hypothyroidism, but I think you should speak to your dr about putting you on Glucopahge. I wish you much luck and Welcome to Soul Cysters!!!

Thanks Laura. I have a follow-up appt. in a few weeks. I know my doctor does use Glucophage but I wasn't sure if I would be a candidate for it or not. Thanks again.
Christy,
Metformin was a godsend to me. Helped regulate my cycle, helped me lose weight, and (best of all to me) helped me get pregnant. Hope your appointment goes well, we will be waiting to hear how it goes!
Laura,
Lovely family! Babydust for #6!
Hugs cysters

Thank you cyster! I must say I'm impressed at your family pic too! It can be a big production getting these family pics done but it's worth it! It's about time for my family to start thinking of that again, as my siggy pic was taken last November! Kids are growing up so fast...
Hope you get your BFP soon!
Hugs
Jenny
