Glad to have found this site. My name is Amanda...I am 26 and was diagnosed with PCOS as a teen (probably around 14 or 15). My symptoms then were irregular hair growth around my jaw line and irregular periods. My symptoms now are still the hair growth and the fact that losing any type of weight is so difficult. Up until recently, I have pretty much ignored the fact that this condition is something that I have to deal with. I was diagnosed pretty young and so much has changed since I was given that first diagnosis that I haven't kept up on much of the new research.
Now I am at the age where I want to know more...and the more I read the more scared and overwhelmed I feel. My husband and I want to start a family soon...I also want to lose weight (hopefully before any babies). I am having a very difficult time coming to terms with the fact that I may not be able to conceive and if I do, I have a greater risk of miscarriage. As upset as I have been by actually taking the time to get the down-low about my diagnosis...It has been nice to hear about everyone's success stories with pregnancy and how low carb eating can really turn alot of the effects of PCOS around (and perhaps aid in conception). I am rambling, I am just overwhelmed and a little sad---I wish that this is something that I had taken the time in the past to learn about...just a random note--have been on oral contraceptives since I was about 14 for PCOS...been on Metformin since I was about 20....Can't wait to learn from all of you and get to know you as well!!
