I started seeing a RE last month b/c I was not responding to Clomid. After 2 visits to see him (including bloodwork, U/S etc), I feel more confused than when I went in!
His nurse called today and said the only thing out of range was my fasting glucose (FI was fine) and the Dr said my ovaries "had a PCOS look". She said you have to have 2 "symptoms" to be considered PCOS, and I "sort of" fall into that category. They didn't really "diagnose" me, and she only mentioned it when I specifically asked, so I don't know what the deal is. I'm not sure they know!
On one hand, I'd just like a diagnosis so it can be addressed and treated, but I sort of feel like if you're overweight and have a few stray hairs, they label you PCOS since they don't know what to call it!
So the next step is to try to get my FG down for a repeat in 4 weeks and also go in to talk to him about the next step...metformin, injectables...
Just found this great website, and I wanted to get some feedback from you smart, informed girls! Any suggestions, advice, words of encouragement, anything would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Hi Heather! Sounds like you probably do have PCOS. This site is great -- get onto a thread and get to know some girls and you will get all your questions answered. The TTC threads are very active, and a lot of people here have been through a lot, so will have lots of advice.
Some people, by the way, will find that Met combined with Clomid is much more effective than Clomid alone, so perhaps once you get on Met you won't need to go all the way to injectables yet. Also, you might ask your RE about Femara, which works similarly to Clomid but some studies have shown it works better than Clomid in PCOSers. Most people on here are on Met -- read about it before you start it b/c of side effects! I have been before but not now.
Any specific questions? I'd be happy to try. Otherwise, surf around here and you'll learn a ton! Good luck!
