Default New Here - Met. Dosage & Hypoglycemia?

I am looking for a little reinforcement here, sorry if this topic has alreayd been covered elsewhere.

My GP has had me on 500 MG Met since October. Nothing. I finally started researching what the appropriate dosage should be when a friend told me she was taking 1500 mg. I asked my doc to put me on more and she would not. She said she had never prescribed that much and would make me check my blood sugar twice a day every day to make sure I wasn't becoming hypoglycemic. She gave me a referral to an OBGYN because she though he would likely have more knowledge in this area and be able to help me better. (FINALLY! I've been trying to get that referral since July 2005!)

The OBGYN can't get me in until the end of Feb. I am thinking of increasing my own dose to 1000 mg to see how that goes since I can't see the doc until the end of the month and I have alreayd been waiting for this for a long time. And no one seems to be in a bug hurry to get me taken care of - but me.

Has anyone ever had problems with hypoglycemia on Met?

I did initially, for maybe the 1st 6wks or so. I started at 1000mg, w/o working up to it, so that could've factored in. Occasionally I'll still get the shakes, usually 1st thing in the morning, but it has more to do w/what I've eaten (or haven't eaten) the day before. When my new Dr upped me to 1500mg, she ordered an A1C bloodtest to make sure I wasn't becoming hypo. I have it repeated every 3mths. She's also using it to tell her if I need to increase, decrease, or stay the course on my meds.
