Hi I just joined today because I wanted to find out somethings.
First I am an older women 49. I have alot of the symptoms that are mentioned. But didn't have this when I was young. Can a person get PCOS when they are older. I have always had a problem with a cyst on my ovary. I had been told when I was 22 I was pregnant in the tube but whent he looked I had a cyst the size of a golf ball. I was hormones for it but later would get a cyst fairly regular that would cause horrible pain. It would rupture at times and that was really painful. I had difficulties holding a pregnacy and had two childern finally when I was in my late 20s both were premature babies. One thing that still bothers me is I have pain off and on in my lower abdomen in what I call my uterus area. I am older and felt it was probably old age. I have always every month my whole life had mid cycle pain that was worse than PMS pain. Now I have that pain off and on most of the month. I have been checked by the doctor and they just say its probably a cyst or scar tissue. I have had hormones checked and they on blood test come out normal. As a matter of fact they tell me I have high estrogen for someone my age. One doctor did saliva testing and I had some progesterone but on the low side. Estrogen was normal. Doctor started me on progesterone the natural kind. I couldn't tell much difference using it. He also checked my DHEA which he said was good. I am over weight now 5 1 and weigh 170. My boobs hurt all the time. I know some say this is like perimenopause. I just wonder if there has been something with this cyst going on all along. I have had my glucose checked, thyroid, and they are in normal range. Does anyone have an idea about this. As far as hair loss my is thinner but that comes with age. I have a hair face but its blond peach type fuzz. I take it off and have for years. Thanks everyone I feel for all that have what is posted here. I have just always wondered what was going on with me and the cyst all these years. I am now disabled with ear disease and spend much time home bound. My mother was working with a women that had a problem with vertigo and that told her when she got read of cyst on her ovaries her vertigo went away. take care Linda

I think my Mom has PCOS, but she was never tested. I believe women are born with PCOS and can have symptoms occur at any time in life. Mine started when I was young, but was over looked for decade. Each woman can have a different set of symptoms and lab results can be wrong.
Thanks you both for the responses. It would be nice to find out about this. I didn't see the thing about skin tags until after I had posted. I have small skin tags but have twice had bunches burned off in the past. I think at this point and age there isn't much the doctors would do. I think this could have been what my problems were in my younger years. I am hoping maybe when menopause if here and gone I won't feel the symptoms any longer. Linda

I'm trying to get my Mom to get tested for IR since that and heart trouble can show up even later in life for PCOS women. One lady I know had a complete hysterectomy, but still is having problems related to PCOS.
