Default New here... Please help me with lab results.

Hello Ladies! My name is Lisa. I am a homeschooling mother of 5 dc. I had my tubes tied after my 5th (3 1/2 yrs ago) and later regretted it. Dh wasn't to sure about a reversal so I gave it to God in prayer. This past Sept I found out I was pg! I was so thrilled! Then I miscarried at less than 6 wks. I had a test done (HSG? where they put dye in you to see if your tubes are blocked, etc) and it showed that BOTH of my tubes grew back together!!!! God is good!!!

I am certain I have not ovulated since. I have been doing some charting and trying to observe cm. (which I have had basically none- tiny bit here and there.) Anyway, 3 wks ago I went to a new dr on the recommendation of someone. This dr is a general dr but specializes in hormones. I went questioning possible hypothyroidism. He said he would gladly check all the thyroid stuff but it is rarely that.

I gave him my saliva test results I did on my own from last summer. He said based on my saliva test results he thought I had PCOS. So I started researching it and thought that would explain some things. (I had low progesterone levels which I use pro-gest cream for.)

But at today's appt he says my blood work does not agree with his original diagnosis of PCOS. After he went on about that my labs don't point to PCOS I asked about the pain I get in my lower right side (ovary area) and he said maybe you have a cyst and went on to preach about proper diet and exercise because my labs don't point to PCOS. ???????

So according to him all that I need to do is lose weight and eat healthier. I know he is right about that but I want to be sure that there is not anything contributing to my having trouble losing weight.

So while I make my way through the wealth of info on this board can anyone offer anysights to my labs? I got several pages of results (he tested all sorts of stuff) so if there is other info that you would like to know just ask and I'll check my papers!

T4 7.5
TSH 1.12
Free T4 0.8
Free T3 3.73
Cortisol (am) 11.2
DHEA 179
Insulin 8
Progesterone 18.2 (done during luteal phase while using pro-gest cream)

Thanks!
Lisa

Default cortisol

Hi

I would take a look at your cortisol levels. If they're high they could contribute to all those symptoms. But the scale that each lab uses is different so you'll have to find out what range your 11.5 is on. Its a stress hormone, so it causes you to store fat and can also mess with other hormone levels in your body. Since it comes from your adrenals (on top of your kidneys) it could be affecting your periods as well as contribute to that pain you're feeling in your low back.

What about LH and FSH? Are those listed on your results?

The 8am scale is 10.0 to 25.0

Also, I do not see LH and FSH listed on the results. I do have copies of all my labs that were done. When I first posted my results I didn't realize that ranges vary from lab to lab. So if there are any ranges anyone is interested in knowing I can give them.

I shared under the Metformin section that I am going to see my gyn on Friday.

Thanks for the warm welcomes and the insigts!
Lisa

Default Hi...

I will try to help as best as I can. This is why PCOS is so confusing, it is possible to have normal blood work and still have PCOS. I am going to compare my tests as best as possible with what you have written.

The first numbers are yours, the second is my very first blood work, the third is after 2 months have glucophage. So take it for what its worth.

T4 7.5 ?
TSH 1.12 ?
Free T4 0.8 0.1 0.08
Free T3 3.73 ?
Cortisol (am) 11.2 ?
DHEA 179 166 229
Insulin 8 5.1 6.0
Progesterone 18.2 (done during luteal phase while using pro-gest cream)

Sorry I only had 3 to compare to. By what my doc says, if a doc doesn't know the pattern to look for, it is hard to diagnose.
