Default New here, without a diagnosis

Hi, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I realised recently that I may have PCOS, although I've not been officially diagnosed. I show all the symptoms. I don't bleed regularly, I have acne prone skin, I'm apple shaped, and I have thining head hair, but excessive hair elsewhere, such as legs, back, belly, etc.
I never realised that all of this was interconnected. It was only recently that I heard of PCOS, when a gynecologist told my sister that she may have it. I've never been officially diagnosed with it though. I've had blood tests for hormones in the past, but I've never been contacted about the results (which means they didn't find anything). I've also had an ultrasound done on my ovaries (although I didn't know why at the time), but nothing abnormal was visible.
I find this a bit confusing. I'm not sure why I have all the symptoms whithout showing imbalances in the blood tests or cysts on the ovaries. Right now I'm just trying to get more information about this syndrome, and the known treatments for it.

Hi oaktreegirl,
Just wanted to be the first to welcome you to SC! When I was first dx'd, I did a bunch of research...it's the best thing you can do for yourself. This site is wonderful and a threshold of info. Also, by doing this research, you'll soon find that you don't need cystic ovaries OR totally abnormal blood work to have PCOS. I was told it's basically dx'd with a history of missed periods, then they go from there. If your sis has it, then your prolly more likely to have it too. When I was dx'd, I felt like I was just dx'd with cancer, I took it hard, obviously, and the only thing that saved my sanity was research. So, log online and stay all night if ya have too, LOL! Welcome again!!! You've found the right place!!!

oaktreegirl-Welcome to Soul Cysters! I have done a lot of research and found many answers here without having to go too far. When I was first diagnosed I was the same way. I had a couple symptoms, but my blood tests didnt show irregularities and I had no cysts on my ovaries. There are alot of different variations from woman to woman when it comes to how we are effected. If your sister has it you could definitely have it. It is genetic. My sister is facing a similar challenge. However, at the time I am trying to convince her to find a new DR because hers isnt helping her at all. Do your research and always feel free to bounce questions off of us! Good luck

Hi Welcome.

I too didn't have the cysts when they did the scan but had a lot of the other symptoms. Just as was said above there are alot of variations I have been finding out myself. Not only in the symptoms but what treatments will work also. I've only been on this site for a couple of days and its has been a termendous help to me even after several years after my diagonisis. Before I just couldn't find information that easy.

So welcome.

Welcome !This site is great for helping understand pcos and all the problems we are faced with. I was diagnosed @ age 15 and this site has helped me more than any dr. also my blood tests show I have pcos but according to the dr's not bad enough for any meds besides bcpills & i'm sick of being on those. Anyway good luck.

Welcome, I am new as well, however, I was diagnosed in 2003, my hair actually is incredibly thick but I had growth elsewhere as well as being overweight. I lost weight and my symptoms have been somewhat controlled, but its not easy. I was 15 when i first started showing symptoms and didnt understand why. There are alot of avenues you can go to make sure. Feel free to ask questions, just as everyone else has said.
