Hi everyone, saw this board while researching metformin/clomid and thought it was great that you have threads for the men. My wife and I have been trying for 1.5 years to get pregnant-after coming off b.c. she was not having her regular periods-in fact she only had 4 last year. We tried 2 rounds of clomid and they just didn't stimulate her ovaries enough, so now we've been given metformin and will dose clomid in a few months (just had HSG surgery-all clear). We both have great profiles and healthy lifestyles, and in regards to our bodies we both check out (minus the PCOS of course)-which goes to show that PCOS can affect anybody!
It's been pretty tough on us lately-it seems like all of our friends are having babies left and right. We just went to our nephew's 1st birthday party, and there were some friends their with a 2 year old and an 8 month old that didn't even mean to get pregnant. I could tell my wife wanted to cry after holding the 8 month old-and honestly I kind of got a little depressed and sad myself. I love my wife more than anything, and hope as much as possible that this new prescription does the trick.
just wanted to let you know that if the clomid/metformin combo didnt work she coud also try femara....some women just dont respond to clomid, i didnt. also, if you have been trying without success fo over a year you may want to consult a reproductive endcrinologist if you havent already
Hello there, there is tons of info on PCOS that you must learn about. You mostly know alot already. PCOS is something you both must learn to live with grow together with. My LW and I have been going thru it for about 4 years. NO kids we are to the point we highly doubt we will ever have kids. The biggest thing I can tell you both and I mean Both is talk to each other on the good days and bad, dont hide emotions from each other. We went almost 2 years without knowing what was on my LW. During which time we did not talk very much at all. If you need anything or want to talk Ill be around. I see you can PM yet so i will watch the boards. GL to you both it a fight worth fighting for the one you love, just remember this battle takes you both.
Thanks TMOB! It's great to have other men I can talk with about this. But don't worry-my wife and I talk about EVERYTHING it's just nice to get some advice/help from other guys. She and I are best friends and always communicate our feelings. Good luck to you guys as well, as I mentioned she's on metformin and will start clomid soon and our hopes are obviously high. Speaking with our reproductive endocronologist they all seem to think that we should be able to have children. I REALLY hope they're not just blowing smoke-doctors don't do that.......right? I'm just really new to the whole doctor/hospital scene and obviously want to be optimistic.
It so great to see you and other men on here supporting PCOS and your wife! When I realized I wasn't ovulating and had PCOS, I decided to go the natural route. Not to say your wife shouldn't take clomid, etc. Maybe a combination of clomid and a healhty diet. If you are interested do some research on a Low Glycemic diet, if she isn't already. It is so good for women with PCOS (and really people in general), and has changed my life!! Seriously!
I am now ovulating, however at this point in my life I'm not trying to get pregnant. I instead wanted to prepare for when I do. I am 24 and not married yet, but when we are married we will want to have kids and didn't want to have all that stress while we are trying to get pregnant. My doctor is completely impressed with my progress in beating PCOS, all symptoms are pretty much gone, regular cycles, and ovuating. Which is the most important thing. I am actually going to be doing some speaking on PCOS and the natural ways of beating it coming up in September.
Now of course nothing is for sure that I will get pregnant right away, but from the looks of it, it won't be a problem. Everything checks out as a green light, but there's only one way to know... and well we can't right now.
If your wife is not already doing the low GI diet and you would like a jump start, look at my profile and feel free to ask any questions.
Take care and have a great weekend!

Doing Low GI diet as of Sept. 07. DX with PCOS in Sept 07' as well.
Started at a size 24, now a size 14. My waist was 44", now it's 32".
I am on no medication, just diet and exercise.
Thank you all for your support and information! I encourage all of you to do a Low Glycemic diet!
I Concieved Naturally With No Clomid. I Worked Out Six Days A Week And Took Metformin Every Day. I Followed This Book Called The Insulin Resistant Diet. It Really Helped. I Found Out On Passover That I Was Pregnant. I Thought I Had The Flu Because I Stayed Sick. I Have Fought Infertility For Thirteen Years.
Thanks everybody for the responses. Sweetstar, wifey is eating healthier and exercising-she's a wiifit fanatic. I'm kind of an amateur bodybuilder so eating right and exercising is VERY important to me-and strength training of course. My wife's diet is definetely something we're working on-we're hoping the Metformin will kind of kick her hormones back into gear.
She's a Dr. Pepperaholic-and all I every drink is water (might have a beer or soda once a week). We're limiting her to 1 soda a day-she hates it, but I'm hoping it helps her be healthier and she knows it's for the better. As for eating better it's tough on her, she's a therapist and sometimes doesn't get home until after 9:30 at night, and it's tough to eat right and healthy at that time of night (tough on your digestive system too). I checked your profile, but am new to the site and wasn't sure where you listed the specifics on a low glycemic diet (I'll google it too). Thanks again everybody!
Also, we're hoping it won't come to Clomid of course. The Metformin will (fingers crossed) begin to regulate things. Not sure how personal to get-but she just had her first period on her own (without Provera, etc.) which is kind of a big deal to us because she wasn't having them on her own. Now I know this doesn't mean she's ovulating, but it makes us a bit more optimistic!
That is a HUGE deal that she got her period on her own! It was amazing when I first started menstrating normally again, because it happened within 2 weeks of starting the diet. Okay, well nothing too odd. Well then I got it again the next month, and have had it every month since last Sept. and now I am ovulating as well.
I wish you both luck!! Research pays off and your support is everything to her!!!

I realize I haven't been around since August but there just wasn't much else to report. This January we went through a higher dose of Metformin and Clomid with our first trigger shot. And guess what?...a positive pregnancy! She went to the doctor this morning and everything is confirmed. We are so excited and wish everyone here the best of luck! Thanks to all!
