Hey all - quick NPC question. I had been on Metformin (which appeared to do nothing for me) and was going to be moved on to Clomid, but my liver test came back slightly elevated (probably because of my weight, mostly) and the doctor is now sending me to an endo. In the meantime, while I wait for that appointment, I decided to try Vitex at 500 mg a day (one capsule) and a dab of NPC twice a day. Before this, I wasn't getting my period at all.

I started taking the NPC and Vitex on 6/21, and yesterday I noticed spotting. Today, my period is light, but definitely present, and I'm very excited! I much, much prefer this method of progesterone to Prometrium/Provera.

My question is... after reading the first post, I'm still kinda confused about how I should be using this when I'm TTC. Since I've noticed the spotting, do I stop the cream now? I need to start charting my BBT, I know, but are there any rough guidelines for days? If someone could add to that first post a step by step of how you should use it when you're TTC, that'd be great.

Hi Sonsia

I belive you should chart your BBT and when you think you have O'd (or it is indicated on your chart you then use the NPC fro 14 day's.

If this is not right I am sure someone with a little more knowledge then me will point it out.

I am glad that the NPC has worked for you

for those of you that use the NPC to help you O, how many days do you use it for once O has been confirmed?

Thanks

Hello - I am interested in getting some NPC to encourage AF as I dont think I Od this cycle and want to start soy isoflavones next cycle. I am gonna go and ask if they have it at our pharmacy but can someone tell me how much I should be paying? Alot of things are overpriced here in Greece and if so, I can get a friend to bring me some from UK in a few weeks, but I would rather not wait so long.

How much do you pay for your NPC? Thanks!

My doctor recommended I use 1/4 teaspoon NPC am/pm from CD 10-28, if no AF, POAS at CD30. If BFN and no AF, wait ten days and resume. If BFP, stay on NPC and give her a call.

I hadn't been using enough the first cycle...and this cycle got out a measuring spoon. And so far, I'm on CD5. First time to O in a loooong time.

(I'm also taking Vitex and had just started taking False Unicorn / White Peony, so they may have had some effect.)

BigBite -- My 4 oz tube cost $14 (2 oz "free"). Brand is Source Naturals.

you can also order it online. Vitacost dot com has really good prices. It makes sense to order a lot of things at once, though, since it has $4.95 flat shipping. I stock up

Should I start taking NPC already?

I took NPC to bring af last cycle cd 45-54 and O'd on cd 60. Ended up with 72 day cycle!

Now I'm on cd 18 and usually I O late (18-26) or very late (40-60). Should I wait couple of more days to O before starting NPC this cycle? When would be a good time? Cd 20, 22, 26...??

Ok, I'm confused. I thought you were supposed to take NPC AFTER you O. I have never heard it can make you O. How does that work?

kittykisses, I wish I knew. My body is totally messed up, so I believe it can do anything... NPC can also be taken to bring af even if you haven't O'd. That's what I tried in my last cycle as I didn't want af to join us during our honeymoon.

Me, too, I used it to bring on AF. I have really long cycles (like 3 months and more) and I did NPC to cause AF last mo and it worked great. But I have never heard of taking it to O. I thought you took it early only if you wanted to shut down your ovaries and not O.

yeah it confuses me too....most research i've been finding say to take it after O when wanting to get pregnant. my doctor, however, told me to take it on CD 10-28. I found a site that said to start around CD 8 with low low dosage, then increase to full dose after O. But...you can find sites online that say ANYthing...
I'm going to ask my Dr. next time I see her why she recommends it early on. Maybe for me it's just to get my body used to having progesterone again, so that it'll start cycling on its own.
I sure wish doctors would frequent these boards!

Funny story for you .... I was taking BCP for first 2 years of marriage. Well, i timed the BCP several months in advance so wedding/honeymoon would be right in the middle of the cycle.
Wouldn't you know it, AF came half way through the packet of pills....started the morning of the wedding.

AF also comes on Valentine's Day and vacations. It's like it KNOWS when to be annoying lol.

nebulous, you are so right. Luckily af was not that clever this time. She showed up just couple of days before our honeymoon and bagged her bags during our flight. So, she was kind enough to leave at the very last moment.

I had some severe ovulation pain 2 days ago (cd 17), so I'm now hoping it really was an ovulation. Otherwise I think I'll start NPC on cd 22, so I don't have to wait forever again. I wish there were precise guidelines to NPC and late ovulation.
