I completely agree with Saren as well. Well said. I mean, we take vitamin supplements because our bodies don't make essential substances we need, or we don't get them in our diet. I see NPC as "sort of" the same thing. It's a substance we with PCOS are deficient in, so supplementing it is not necessarily harmful, when done the right way. I would much rather use a NPC supplement than take birth control pills or Depo-Provera shots, or have that darn Norplant thingie (do they still use that?). Just how I see it. Good thought provoking question, thanks for asking it!

The wacky hormones are WHY they have PCOS, so those levels don't usually adjust on their own without some kind of medical intervention. If you can do it naturally with a hormone that is already in your body instead of meds, I say go for it. Be sure to do your research and educate yourself first, of course.

Also, most types of birth control have hormones in them (other than the "barrier" methods like condoms or diaphragms) and docs don't hesitate to prescribe those to young women. As a matter of fact, before I was diagnosed with PCOS, the pill was the first form of "treatment" prescribed by every doctor I saw. IMO, the Pill is much more a hormone replacement therapy than NPC, especially since it does nothing to fix the problem, it just masks the symptoms.

Just my thoughts. Anyone else?
I agree! Yeah, the pill was the only treatment my first doctor suggested for pcos - after having blood work done that determined my pituitary was low, that was all he suggested. So I've been taking herbs such as vitex, dong quai, and others, but I also use NPC because of how slowly herbs and other natural treatments work. Not a quick fix, but getting to the root of the cause, so NPC can be thought of as a temporary solution, not a permanent one.

If you have PCOS, they won't adjust entirely on their own, though.

It would be swell if time fixed PCOS, but it doesn't.

It can take several months using NPC for it to bring on AF (often as much as 6 months). For me, when I first started using it, it took 3 months, and all I did was spot (really icky brown stuff) for about 3 days. Then about 3 months later, I accidentally used the NPC for 3 whole weeks, instead of just 2, and I got AF right after. Apparently, that is called "shutting down" or something like that, and it gives your ovaries a chance to rest (is that right, Mallory?) so they don't struggle to ovulate. I don't know if that is why I got AF, or if it just happened that way, but that is what happened. So just give it time. And I have to wonder, too... what brand and type (soy or wild yam) of NPC are you using?

"• 500 mg Pure Progesterone per Ounce • USP Grade Progesterone"

Looks okay to me.

Maybe your testosterone levels are too high for you to ovulate or menstruate. How are you trying to bring your levels down? Are you exercising and eating a low G.I. diet? That helps a lot to lower testosterone levels for insulin-resistant PCOS types.

Ok, I have used that kind too, I think it is a good one. I think you should just give it some time. There are herbs you can take to get your hormones balanced, such as dong quai and black cohosh. Here is a good one I might suggest: http://www.mynsp.com/naherbs/product...x?StockNum=882

Have a question for you gals, about 3 weeks ago I started using NPC to induce my cycle, it has worked for me before, well all I got was spotting, and when I went to my Dr she said that it looked like I just didn't use enough so she said to start over and use a little more, well I am 3 days into use and I started bleeding but for only about 2 hours a day and the rest of the time spotting or nothing at all, so should I consider this AF or finish the 14 days of NPC and see what happens? Thanks so much for all responses!!

Hi ladies,

I don't really have time to search through all the posts right now, I am hoping someone could answer a couple questions I have about NPC.

I noticed that JD is having problems regarding her period... well that is exactly what I want to avoid! I have read/heard that NPC causes period problems... can mess up the cycle days, length, flow etc. Can stop it all together... or just mess it all up completely.

I really want to raise my progesterone levels, I have a gut feeling this is why I lost my first baby. I am worried about messing up my cycle, I've only been having a NORMAL cycle for about a year now. I really don't want to cause that to change!!!

So my question is, HOW often does that happen? What can you do to avoid the problem? How many people have had that happen?

How do you know when to stop the cream.... I know the beginning post says when your not pregnant, but... won't that run into the normal time where af should be returning???

I have also heard that NPC doesn't really raise your prog level that much higher, so is it even worth trying? My natural prog level on CD 22 was 10.6 - which my doctor said was good, for a non-medicated cycle. I personally want it up around 15... but they won't prescribe me any prog pills/injections.... which irritates me!

Any advice? I just want to raise my levels, not mess up my periods and have a healthy pregnancy.... of course... don't we all... LOL

Kathy...
I had that experience once before. After a few days of spotting or some days of IT only being there at certain times I finally started fully. Good luck...hope your AF shows up in the next day or so.
