I'm really not sure if I belong here yet, since I have not been diagnosed, but I do have quite a few of the symptoms that most of you seem to have. I've been lurking for a day or so and thought I would introduce myself.
I'm Penny and I am a mom of 2 boys. We homeschool and when I mentioned my symptoms to some moms online, 3 of them immediately thought I should look into PCOS. I was diagnosed with Insulin Resistance about 3 years ago, but my local PCP didn't recognize that as "real" since I didn't have diabetes....I went through a Nurse-Practioner who deals with Women's Issues but all testing had to go through my PCP. The NP said that I had it but didn't really give me anything for it except to tell me to "watch your carbs" and use progesterone cream because my periods were REALLY heavy..and still are.
The problems with my cycle, hair loss, hair growth and inability to lose weight even though I am exercising and eating healthy is what sent me to my NEW PCP. He is an Osteopath so I was hoping to get some better answers from him.
I was tested today. I did the 2 hr Glucose Tolerance Test, FHS, LH, Thyroid, T3 and T4. I told him I suspected PCOS or excess estrogen. He listened to me (thankfully) and ordered these tests. He did mention the Glucophage so I'll see what he thinks when I go back in two weeks.
Everything I've read here has been SO informative for me!

Hi Penny! Nice to meet ya! Welcome. You definitely belong. I was lurking around here for several months before I got a diagnosis (I was too shy to post). I'm glad you got a new doctor who cares & listens. That is so important. Your story sounds a lot like mine. I had hair loss, hirsutism, I got af 3 times a year if I was lucky & I had trouble losing weight. Thanks to this site I knew exactly what to ask about at my appointments, & I'm still learning new things.
