New like a thing that's uh, really new My name is Gemma, I'm 24 and I was diagnosed with PCOS last month after ultrasounds and too many blood tests.
For me the diagnosis has actually been a relief- I started putting on weight as soon as I hit puberty, and despite exercise and healthy eating, I was never able to shift the weight, only stabilise it for short periods. Despite my protests to my then doctor, I was dismissed as fat and lazy and merely told to exercise more. This was when I was putting in four out of five days at the gym so I was rather angry.
Then I started having hot flushes- like really, really badly-and got the usual response. Oh, it must be your weight! How I wanted to punch that woman in the face. So I switched docs, and within two months I'm on provera, metformin and reductil, happily diagnosed. Hopefully now I can make headway into all this weight before I feel to old for miniskirts. |
