Default New to Met

Hi everyone I am new to the site and to taking Met....I have been suffering from PCOS for over 15 years now, I am 29 and my husband and I are TTC. I started taking Met on June 2 and I got my period today June 18th. Before taking met I never got a period...so I am feeling hopeful however I was curious to hear from ppl how long they were on Met before they got preg?? or how long they were on the Met before moving to adding something like Clomid

Thanks and look forward to sharing and learning from everyone's experiences!!

Oh thanks, yes I have also heard great things about the Met.....I am keeping my figers crossed, I haven't menstrated on my own without the pill in years and I currently am after being on Met for about 20days....so I am hoping to make the next cycle work for being prego.....did your doctor tell you what days to specifically try on or to just try a lot??

You know, I never really knew if the met was working until I started Charting my temps. This has been great. For the first 4 months ttc I wasn't sure if I oe'd or exactly when af would come. Now I pretty much know......
I do think that met had a hand in regulating my cycle and it didnt take long!

Good luck!

Red face nervous to take met

I just got an rx for metroformin and the side effects make me nervous to take it. I didn't realize I even had PCOS b/c the only symptom I have is irregular cycles. I am kinda bumbed but know I need to try to do what is necessary for me to conceive.
Anyone have any ways to make the side effects easier? thanks in advance

a couple things ive heard is to take them with meals. like eat half then take ur met then eat the rest. also watch ur carb intake it can make s/e worse to eat too many. what mg are you on? i just started it myself and im on 500mg now for the 1 st week, 1000mg for the 2nd and then 1500mg in the 3 rd week until my doc wants to do something else. my doc wants to see me back on july 29th and she says if im doing well on it then she will add clomid to met. good luck hun and take care <3

My doc is doing the same thing and will most likely add the clomid if I am not prego with the Met alone by Aug.....the side effects can be not so great at times, but if you want to conceive then I guess it is worth it in the end. Umm I take my Met at night eith my meals so I usually sleep through any issues and to tell you the truth I started off very slowly only at 250 and I am moving my way up to a high dose currently at 500 and I have found that to be better, my symptoms dont appear to be too bad...my body has begun to adjust to everything...so I would suggest slowly introducing your body to Met...hope this helps!!

lisattcbaby....thanks for the advice, i'm going to start taking it as soon as i get home from my trip. I leave tomorrow...i just don't want to be real sick while away. she put me on 1000mg a day and if i can tolerate it, she wants me to take another one(500mg) with the usual nightime one. i just never knew things like this really happened, ya know? if i knew it would be like this, i would have been concerned years ago...guess it's not until you really want a baby that you decide to look into things more. i just feel so sad.

teacher~i feel the same way about the waiting too long part! i wasnt really ttc or preventing when i conceived 4 yrs ago but then i mc. i didnt know i had pcos at that time. that doc didnt see it either. but the doc i had after that found it and had me on clomid and provera. the clomid started working but i lost insurance. so now i have another doc but still no insurance till the end of next month but it is self pay until we get it. but the doc seems to be awsome and new the right things to say to me to make me feel comfy with her. She is actually well looks to be about 6-7 months pg herself! well ladies im heading to bed night all and take care <3

Hopeing~it would be nice for th emetformin to work alone wouldnt it?? lol and thanks for the info everything helps at this point! take care <3

I was dx in April of this year and was prescribed 1000mg Met then. I had taken 2 rounds of Clomid before dx and 1 after. After three rounds of Clomid with no O, doc is now moving me on to Femara next cycle. No O or BFP to date.

And just incase s/e's are something you're worried about - I didn't suffer any s/e from Clomid and I haven't had any with Met either. GL to you!

Thanks for all of your comments, advice, and words of encouragement! I am away on vacation now, trying not to think about all of this but it's hard. My husband and I are in Busch Gardens, so fun!
I wanted to ask you ladies if you have ever heard of OV WATCH? I ordered it and used it last month, it is awesom!! For those of you who don't ovulate, it won't work until you do. I do, not just the same time each month. If you get a chance, please go to ovwatch.com and read about it and the success stories. Last month I wore it for the first time and it did tell me my readings, guess I didn't "do it enough!" Anyway, I began my cycle this am so will wear it at night this month as well. I am crossing my fingers for this month!
You all enjoy the day, it going to be hot here so we are going to hit the water park.
See ya!

I hope you all do check into ovwatch, let me know what you think.
So, I get put on Met but didnt want to begin it until I get home from vacation, this Friday. The thing is, I got my period on time this month, yesterday! I don't know if I should take it or not, I usually get my period on time, just have been a few weeks late a fw times. Oh gosh, this is a mess!
