Unhappy New on Met - Help!!

My dr. put me on Met about a week ago. I started with 1 500mg pill for a few days, and then on Monday of this week I upped it to to 2 500mg pills. (I'm working my way up to 3 500mg pills).

Did any of you increase your starting dose like this? When should I up myself to 3 pills?

One the one pill, I had nausea, on the two pills I have a bit of nausea, and the runs, what waits for me on pill 3? I'm already exhausted -- slept 12 hours last night!!

How long do the symptoms last? How long have you been on Met.? Is it a forever type drug?

Thanks for your input ladies. You have all been a god send to me!!

I am new to this website, but I have read so many different ways that people have started on this medication. For myself, I started taking one 500mg pill for one month, now that I am done my first month I started taking two 500mg (so 1000mg) for the next month, then at the end of the second month I will up the dosage to three pills--making it 1500mg.

When I started the one pill. I had nausea and was in the bathroom quite a bit, but after one week my body got use to it. I am going to assume the same will be with this second pill--there will be an adjustment period.

I can't imagine taking that large of a dosage bang bang bang. YIKES!!!! No wonder some of you ladies feel crumy on this med.

I do have to say, I am so pleased and relieved for what this medication has done for me. I have been on the med for 1 month and I am down 10 lbs!!!! I am SO RELIEVED!!! Good luck and let me know how it goes for you.....EMMJ

Edited to add....I just saw you are from NH....me too!!!

Hi NH Cyster!!!

Where in NH are you? I'm in Manchester....the big city!! Ha ha!!

Did you lose the 10 lbs just by being on the Met or did you try to lose the 10lb?

Did you space out your meds one month at a time, or did your dr tell you to do that?

I think my dr. is rushing things because my insurance won't cover any infertility issues after age 41, and that will be in just 4 more months .

We have been TTC with no protection for our entire 20+ year marriage. DH want's to give medical intervention one more try before I get too old.

Thanks for your input.

WOW we are so close!!!! We use to live in the BIG city, Wellington Hill then we built a house in the next town over and we have been here for about 1 1/2 years!!! Too funny....what a small world!!!

When I started the Met I was already working out a lot and eating right. All I did to lose the 10 lbs was start taking the MET!!! It has been so long for me, with working out and eating right and only watching the scale go up!!! How discouraging!!!

My Dr. is the one who told me to do one pill the first month, two the second etc.... (FYI I am not using Met to get pregnant). Also, it is an endocrinologist who I see for PCOS and not an OBGYN. I don't know if that makes a difference.

My neighbor used metformin to help with ovulation. I can check with her to see what kind of "schedule" her Dr. put her on to help with pregnancy.

I hope this works for you and try to hang in there and if it is too harsh for you call your Dr. to see if you can maybe increase weekly rather than daily. Good luck....my fingers are crossed for you and I am sending baby dust your way!!!!
