New / My PCO / PCOS Diagnosis Hello everyone,
I am 32 years old. I've always had irregular periods (30 - 55 days), have been 20 lbs overweight despite constant dieting (I know that's not a lot, but it is considering I eat half as much as my thin friends), have had 2 rounds of laser hair removal on my chin, and have adult acne. But I never really thought I had PCOS. Two different doctors in the past suspected it when I went for acne or described my irregular periods, but my hormone tests came back normal.
Well, about two months ago I needed an internal scan for an unrelated purpose, and the doctor said "Your ovaries are PCO-ish." I had known what PCOS was, having been suspected/cleared of it twice now. But did that mean I had PCOS? I asked him if I had PCOS - he would only say that my ovaries were polycystic, but that didn't mean I necessarily had PCOS.
I think I was in denial for a few weeks given my bloodwork that said I didn't have PCOS. But with the very irregular periods, the facial hair, the acne, and the visible polycystic nature of my ovaries, I guess I really do have PCOS ... I mean, right? So I'm reading up on PCOS, and there are some scary things that happen. On the other hand, knowing I have PCOS makes me feel a little less to blame about my struggles with weight.
Anyway, so what do I do now? Having suspected PCOS for years but in denial, I guess I have it? I'm not sure what to do now ... I guess I should find a doctor and say "my bloodwork doesn't show PCOS, but I have many symptoms, and confirmed polycystic ovaries" - and then see what happens? Do I necessarily go on meds? Or if I've been doing ok is it possible I won't need to. Does glucophage prevent diabetes? Help my acne and facial hair? Help with weight loss?
Sigh.
Anyway, thanks for this forum - all my google searches sent me this way, and that's why I'm here.
