I was diagnosed with PCOS about 1 year ago and had a bad doc that didn't do blood test to confirm or put me on any meds to help with the insulin resistance, just put me on Clomid to help me get pregnant. Found a new doc 2 weeks ago and she did the blood test to confirm. She said it is confirmed by the insulin in relation to the glucose. Does anyone know if this is the correct way to determine? When I started having problems I gained about 40 lbs in one year and starting growing more facial hair and at the same time losing more hair on my head. My new doctor has put me on Metformin for the insulin resistance, and progesterone to get my monthly going again, and Clomid for the ovulation deal. Can one of you seasoned veterans please tell me if this sounds right?
quickly reading through - yes that sounds like a good set of meds xx

For diagnosis, my doc says you need 2 things ~ clinical symptoms & biochemical indicators. If you are having PCOS symptoms, you have a blood test or ultrasound that came back with indicators of PCOS, & other illnesses have been ruled out then you can be diagnosed. As for your meds, those are typical meds that are Rx'd for PCOS. Generally though, I would think they would only put you on one at a time to determine effectiveness. If you are on all at once you may not know which medicine is doing what (some women find Met alone helps with symptoms, cycle regulation, & ovulation...). You could talk to your doc about this. Otherwise, I think it will just take time to find what is best for you. Good luck!

Out of the meds you're taking the only one I've taken is met. The met alone helped me lots, my periods got more regular, I lost weight, and I got pregnant.
I don't know if you've heard this yet, but for the met side effects, what helped me most was to take the met in the middle of the meal, and watch your carb intake. Hope this helps!
I'm glad you're here
Hugs
Jenny
