So im really pretty new to PCOS and im just trying to get things figured out. I know, mostly by reading here, about the connection/link of Hypothyroid and POCS. I’m just wondering if there are any cases of an inactive or under active thyroid. Does that even relate to PCOS? So, if anyone has some words of wisdom it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks...have a happy Friday!

Hi Jackie and welcome to the board! I'm not sure what you mean by "inactive or underactive thyroid". That is what hypothyroid means, and you already know there is a connection between that and PCOS. Can you please explain what it is you want to know?

I suffer from hypothyroidism which is, in effect an underactive thyroid. It's something a lot of women with PCOS suffer from. I take 50mg of Levotiroxin daily to manage it.
Hyperthyroidism is an overactive thyroid.

Don't rely solely on the TSH reading. Please make sure your doctor is checking everything on the thyroid panel. I had a TSH of 6.9 (my highest ever), but my T3s were about 1/8 of what they should be and my T4s were off and my Anitbodies were off the chart (i.e. Hashimoto's). There are different kinds of Tyroid medication out there an each one helps a different area better. If you are only having TSH issues - Synthorid is good. If you are having more T3 problems - Armour is better. Just have to do your research and be prepared when you talk to your doctor. The more you know, the better you can help them treat you. They may be the doctor, but you know your body better than they do. And what they think is a cureall for one person, may not be for the another. SO you need to be able to stand your ground and push for what will help you better.
