Default new patient w/met & avandia very sick

hi there, I have a question for a friend, who, although is not pcos, she just found out she is diabetic and the doctor has put her on a combo of metformin and avandia. today she is experiencing the following:

she is very sick and does not know which med is causing nauseau, dizziness, cold sweats, like sea sickness. this is her third day on both and they started her on a full dosage immediately. she says she feels like her sugars are low but they are not. could it be also that she has cut out the carbs and sugars out of her diet too?

any help would be appreicated!

kimberly

Hi there,
You are a sweet friend to look into this for her...
All of this change at once is quite a shock to the system. Feeling like one's blood sugar is low is terrible. Especially because she has changed her diet recently, I would suggest eating several times per day, maybe even up to ten times a day, so that at no point will she get that starved feeling. As long as the quantity of food isn't much more than she would have eaten, this might help her transition into her new relationship with the meds. If she plans it out in the morning, she can keep an eye on total consumption. I also would recommend getting some extra sleep.
Best wishes to you both,
Sheri
