I am new to this website and new to PCOS. I am 26 and I was dx July 2008 and my dh and I had been ttc for 2 years. I have the best RE. So if anyone needs an RE and they live in PA let me know. I am currently taking Fortamet Xr 1500mg and Today the RE gave me a prescription for Clomid 50mg beause my testosterone level is now at 60 and before it was 89. We are so excited and we hope that we will finally be able to have the family we dream of. We are just keeping our fngers crossed that ths will work.
If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it. I am looking forward to meeting women with the same condition and issues as me. It will be great to have someone who truely knows what it is like to have PCOS and what it feels like to ttc without any luck.
Hi Peggy...I'm also new to the boards! I know what you mean about finding people that truly know what it feels like to TTC with no luck! I find the stories here are very inspiring and help me to keep going
Well, I'm new to this message board thing, and also to PCOS. I was diagnosed a few months ago. I started going to a gynecologist when I turned 18 because my family has a history of cervical cancer. I had always had a lot more hair on my face than most girls my age. I had asked the Gyno about this problem and he said that it was just because I was Italian and I had thicker hair than most woman. I believed into that lie for 3 years. I finally got sick and tired of dealing with these stupid "issues" and switched doctors. I knew that there was something else wrong with me, but my gyno kept telling me that I was fine, even after I did a check before I got married to make sure everything was ok. I switched my doctor this past July. It was the best decision I could have made. I didn't even have to describe any issue that I had. The first thing he said when he saw me was "Did you know that you have PCOS?"...... and that's when my PCOS journey began. I have learned so much about this disorder in the past couple months. I didn't even know that Kate Gosselin (from Jon and Kate Plus 8) and also a few women in my church actually had the same disease.
Now is when all the questions start:
1. I know there's hope for children and for a "normal" appearence, but what do you do in the mean time...
2. Does anyone have any ideas that could get rid of the facial hair?????? URGH!!! I can't do ANYTHING with my face!
3. What about exercises specifically designed for women with PCOS? Anyone have any neat ideas?
4. How long have some of you had this devistating disorder??
Roxey- I agee that the stories are inspiring and they do give you hope.Good luck on your journey. xxx
Louisa- I don't know if you are ttc or not bt good luck on your journey as well. I was told the same types of things. I had the same ob for 10 years. You would think that they would know you by then and when you say something isn't right that they would believe you. She always said thns like "everthing is fine" and "there is nothing to worry about". But my RE I wouldn't trade him for anything He is fabulous. He knew when we started talking about my hstory and stuff he said " I am almost positive you have PCOS, lets run the test n be 100% sure". And that was my 1st appointment.
When it comes to the facial hair My friend ownes a hair salon and she waxes it for me. It can be a pain but it is not like shaving where sometimes you can tell.
I don't know of any exercise designes for PCOS but I have had success with loosing weight with weight watchers. I have already lost 23.5 lbs.
I want to know if anyone has a good facial cleanser tha they would recommend. I use cliique facial cleanser but it isn't working as god as it use to.
I have been dealing with pcos since about 16 but was only diagnosed Tuesday by a wonderful doctor who listened to everything I had to say about my irregular periods to my facial hair to my weight. I go and get my faced waxed about every 2 to 3 weeks and I use johnson and johnson baby shampoo, I also use a face scrub made of uncooked rice and raw brown sugar it works well to keep the follicles from getting clogged also nuetrogena clean and clear daily scrub works well for me also , and do you think it is better to take a low estrogen birth control pill or just the pregestrone pill with the metformin and does anyone know of any side effects that maybe the doctor wouldn't tell me about
I know with metformin you have to build your way up. I am on Fortamet(the same thing)1500mg.But I started out taking 500mg for a wek then 1000mg and then 1500. the only side effect I had was occassionally I would feel dizzy, but you have to remember to eat., and I wa exteremly tired and felt like I had no energy(in the beginnin). I take my pills in the middle of eating and that helped me because a major side effect seems to be GI upset. Knock wood but I never really had GI upset, maybe once or twice.
Are you ttc? If you are then I wouldn't take the BCP's because it will only regulate your period and not really help you toget preggo. I take Foramet and I am starting Clomid hen I get AF.
Thanks for the face wash advice.

I want to try and get pregnant again but my dx recommends getting my levels under control and my weight down before I ttc. So it looks like I will be on bcp for a while, and of course that information was crushing but hopefully we will be fine. I just got diagnosed with divertiliousis (sp) so I dont know what my new treatment plan will be now .
My RE told me that you have to get your levels down in order to conceive or elseit will be even hard and more frustrating.he never told me to go on BCP's he started on the met. What hormone level of yours is high? For me it isTestosterone. All my other hormone levels are in the normal ranges. I am sorry to hear that you have been dx with divertculitis(sp?) (HUGS)...I am sure that is a battle as well. Hpefully the weight will come off quickly, your levels will be in the norml ranges and you will be preggo bere yo know it! I wll keep you and your family in my prayers.
What part of NJ do you live in? I use to live in Hightstown years ago.
Welcome Peggy :]
I'm new to the forums also, and maybe even PCOS. I've known I've had it for about 6 months but I just recently was diagnosed on November 14th. So just a couple days ago! I'm still a bit confused about the whole thing as my gyno has put me on yasmin21, and has told me to keep taking them.. meaning don't take that "7 day break" you'd usually take with them to allow your period to come. So I'm a bit confused as I thought it was almost MANDATORY to have a monthly period to help break down the uterus lining? Considering I haven't had a period in almost a year I'm assuming mines getting quite thick and it's worrying me.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why he'd make it so I don't get my period for the next 3 months? Is he just trying to work my body up to that or... I'm so confused. lol
Anyways sorry for typing so much & welcome again Peggy! Good luck on your family, I hope it all works out. Faith is the main key to all of this and as long as you have that you'll live a wonderful life. :]

My doctor first wants to get the levels undercontrol before I even think about getting pregnant I am however getting very discouraged as the days go on. The diveritlousis (sp) was such a shocker but doc said thats not too bad just have to watch what I eat just like everything else I guess . I hope the weight will come off fast and I can get a handle on all this stuff . My dh and dd are being as supportive as possible but I think I am taking this the wrong way already if before I even start treatment I am feeling like it wont matter and it wont work. I live in montclair nj
Thank you for your prayers
Vicious allure - Thanks and welcome to you too. I am unsure of why your gyno would want you to skip your visit from Af especially if you haven't had a visit in a year. Are you ttc or just trying to get yourself back to "normal"? I would just ask the gyno why. I am sorry that I am not much help there. I agree that you need to have faith that everything will work out. Good luck to you.
Mrs. Mickens - I know that ttc and having set backs i frustrating and it seems like there is no light at thend of the tunnel, but you have to try and keep your head up and have faith that everything will come together. There are times that I feel defeated because I see so many people around me getting pregnant and not even trying and here my dh and I are hre doing everyhing we can with no success. It just
stinks but then I just try and think positive and that by going through all of these struggles will make us appreciate every moment we have with a child even more.
It is wonderful that your dh and dd are supportive. I think that really helps. You def. need a good support system. How old is your dd?
