I was recently diagnosed with PCOS. At first, I thought the doctor was crazy, but then after doing some reading realized that no periods for over three months was no so great. I found out recently that I have insulin resistance as well. I am feeling very overwhelmed, sort of relieved too for finally getting a diagnosis. I have never had menstrual problems until the past few years. I have a lot of other medical problems, so attributed the irregularity to trauma. I do not have excess hair growth, obesity or many of the other problems associated with this problem. My doctor told me that there are mild and severe forms and I am on the less severe side, but need treatment anyway. I am taking glumetza and it has made me gain weight, which i am not happy about. My doctor told me to stick with it and i should start losing any extra weight. Do any of you know when that might be, it has been a month already of building up to 1500 mg. Any advice on how I should be eating or other things i should be doing would be great. I got no info from my doctor. He diagnosed me and then i was out the door. Thanks in advance.
Hi I am on Metformin but it did the reverse for me lost weight all I can suggest is try to eat right and excercise even if it's just going for a 30 min walk every day or every second day that is about all I do and i've lost close to 30 pounds :-) good luck to you and you will have alot of ups and downs with PCOS but don't give up :-)
The 1st time I tried Metformin I gained some weight. I tried it again a few years later and it helped a little to curb my appetite (I lost 15 lbs, but I exercised vigorously at least 1 hr. every day and ate a low glycemic diet I followed quite steadily). Then I plateaued. Metformin never worked for me again, so I stopped taking it.
