Default New to PCOs

Hi everyone. I have found this discussion thread to be very enlightening. Thank you to all who have contributed.

For years I have been living with PCOS and not known it. Two weeks ago, after over two years of not taking any percaucions (consequently believing I couldn't get pregnant) I got pregnant. I miscarried after 7 weeks. After meeting with the OB for less than five minutes, she told me I have PCOS.

I am 31 years old and have suffered from excessive hair growth since I was about 15. Consequently, I have always taken it for granted as a fact of life. Imagine my surprise when I found there was a reason, not only for the excessive hair, but for the obesity, fatigue, and irregular menstral cycles that I have suffered my whole life.

After the intial disappointment of diagnosis came anger at the fact that despite my complaints through the years, no doctor had ever diagnosed me with this. It seemed so obvious, HOW COULD THEY HAVE MISSIED IT?! Especially since many of the symptoms are SO obvious. Now I am working with an OB/GYN who is putting me on Metformin and Yasmin (I begin on Sunday).

I have seen many things in this thread that may prove helpful should the medications my doctor has provided not work.

Thank you everyone for your postings in this discussion. I am eager to learn more about this issue and I think that this web site is going to be a great resource!

Finally, I feel some relief knowing I AM NOT CRAZY and that there is not only help, but support out there as well!!!

I am curious; however, I have seen a couple of references in this thread to hypothyroidism. I also have hypothyroid and have always blamed my inability to lose weight on this fact. What interests me is, how many other people have hypothyriod and take syntroid in conjuction with PCOS? I am just wondering if there is any conection...

The good news is I have lost 24 lbs in the last 6 months with out the PCOS treatment. I has not been easy, lots and lots of exercise and Weight Watchers. I am now armed with more inforamtion and the effects of carbs as well as medical treatment. Hopefully, these things will allow me to lose weight and regain control of my health.
