Hi,
I found this forum after searching for more info on PCOS. I never had regular periods sometimes they would not come for months, the longest wast last year when i didnt get one for 7 months, in that time frame I also gained about 30 lbs.
So i went to the doctor with my concers, doctor put me on BCP to regulate me and i had a blood test wich showed i had a bit of high cholesterol.
Wasnt until last month someone suggested i might have PCOS, so 2 doctors later say i have it and the advice they gave me was to excercise more and eat less, dont eat soya or tofu since it has estrogen...and that was it, so i am trying to figure out what i exactly need to do to lose the wieght? In the last year with diet (less carbs, less eating out) and excercise i have only managed to lose 10lbs, and since February have not been able to lose a single pound.
So i am just thinking if i cant manage to lose another 10 lbs by the end of the year, im just going in for lipo.
I was wondering if anyone has tried that? and did the weight still come back even with a controlled diet afterwards?

Just wanted to say hello and welcome. Seems like so many of us with pcos struggle with our weight, i sure do. I could diet and exercise for weeks and months on end and either stay the same or gain weight, so frustrating. I am insulin resistant which could be the cause of it. I'm taking metformin which lowers the insulin resistance, and will hopefully help me lose weight. I've never had lipo, so can't give you much advice there. You may want to try the diet and exercise forums.
Red Clover, I was dx with PCOS in 97, and let me tell you, weight has always been a battle. My best advice is not consider losing weight by dieting but yet to lose weight through a lifestyle change - such as a goal to improve your cholesterol and the weight loss becomes a "side effect"
I am just fearful that lipo will have an immediate effect (such as losing 10lbs) but will it be a "lifetime effect?" Please think about it. I know it is frustrating now, but in the end you will be healthier - and thinner
Thanks for the welcome replys, yeah im frustrated with the weight gain. Mostly with doctors though not diagnosing me sooner and giving me a better answer to why i gain easily? why i cant lose? why dont i get my period? whats with the extra hair on my tummy?(im considering laser hair removal)
But i am finding this site helpful and informative, im learning more here than what my doctor has been telling me.
I know i am going to have to find a better doctor who will communicate with me about it, so i can learn better nutrition and to take care of myself more so i dont develope other things that can come with pcos later on.
Welcome to SC!! I think a change of Dr's would be good if you can find one that knows about PCOS, I'm sure it's frustrating when you end up knowing more than your Dr on a subject like this! Dr's need to be knowledgable to be able to treat you correctly!
Perhaps you could try metformin? It has helped a lot of people with weight and I'm pretty sure it also helps with the other PCOS symptoms as well.
Good Luck!!
