I found your message board through google.com. I went to my ob/gyn on thursday for irregular periods and he took one look at me and said "in 26 yrs of medicine, i can tell you exactly what you have". I had done previous research on PCOS and i said "PCOS?". He said "yep" So we talked about it and i told him i wanted to lose weight -- i'm currently morbidly obese at 320 lbs. He put me on Metformin/Glucophage. 500 mg 3 x a day. from what i've read here, i'm starting slow on the Met, but i'm extactic to have a diagnosis.
When i turned 11 or 12 i started my periods and started to gain weight--- massively. The doctors when i was younger kept telling my mom that i was healthy and that nothing was wrong with me (even though i was eating healthy -- and yes i had *some* junk as do all kids) but i still gained weight. I got "tested" for PCOS at 17 or 18 and was told that i didnt have it, they didnt do the vag ultrasound - they just did the regular ultrasound. My blood panels also came back normal --- anyhow.. i also have hair growth on my chin-- and not just a couple stray hairs.. i got a darned field growing on my chin. anyhow -- after years of doctors not listening to me and my mom, i finally have an obgyn who understood and listened to me!!!!!!!!!
