Hi veryone my name is Chris. I am newly diagnosed w/ PCOS. The way I found out was rather insulting. For about 4 years I have not felt right. 4 years ago I weighed 130 and has fit and trim and listing weights and eating right. Suddenly I began to gain weight. My periods have always been irregular. I went to a dietician but that did not help. Shortly after I began getting daily migraines or persistent migraines. I went to doctor after doctor for relief and found none. Finally last year I went to an endocrinologist. She gave me a lecture about eating right etc and said she'd test me for endocrin disorders but basically thought I had gained about 100 pounds, which I gained in the span of about a year while dieting and exercising, from having a high calorie diet. She dismissed me and made me feel like I was looking for an excuse for my weight gain, general tiredness, lack of periods (at this point I was getting 2 a year), and migraines. She made me feel like it was all my fault. I knew something was wrong inside as I had never felt this awful for so many years before.
The tests came back and her nurse practitioner called and told me there was no endocrin reason for my weight gain, said in a very snippy tone, but that I might have PCOS so I should call my OBGYN. I said wait what is PCOS, she said its no big deal and at my next OBGYN visit in 6 months I should just talk to my OBGYN about it.
I called Reproductive Associates in DE after looking for a new gynocologist came up w/ there name. I was newto the area and a new OBGYN that wasn't an hour and 1/2 awaqy in my home town sounded like a good idea. I read about PCOS after I got off w/ the phone w/ the nurse and thought it looked like a big deal and might be the reason for all my ails. FInally I had a reason and now maybe I could find the solution because just diet and exercise wasn't working and w/ the fatigue and migraines really being active and being able to cook all the time was really hard.
I have now been diagnosed w/ PCOS and am on progesterone. I am trying to eat a low card diet and exercise but it seems I am still gaining weight and I am still having migraines. I am getting fed up and would like some help. Baring this burden myself has been hard and I would like some advice on a diet plan where maybe I can get prepackaged meals for a few months to ease me into a routine and make it easy on my migraine existance.
Welcome to SC! I hope that you get all the info that you need. Feel free to post any questions you may have. I hope to see you around the boards!

Welcome!!
You'll find this site is filled with wonderful Cysters to offer support! You're not alone!! Search the site.. there's tons of information from diets to research information.. It gets frustrating, I know, but hang in there...
As for a diet plan where they send meals... I have no experience in that, but I can say, that a co-worker did say that she went and bought those freezer entre's, dinners, planning on a full day calorie quota and made her own meal plan... sounds like alot of planning to do that, but probably cheaper than the others.
hope to see you on the boards!!
That was an insulting way to find out. I can't believe how insensitive some health care workers are. I found out rather by accident myself, went in asking to be tested for thyroid problems and diabetes because no matter what I did I couldn't lose weight, my Dr. asked me a bunch of other questions and suggested I might have PCOC. He sent me to a gyno. who did all the testing, and confirmed it.
Have you been tested for insulin resistance yet? I was tested and found that I was highly insulin resistant. My gyn. put me on Metformin and I started losing weight, (while following Weight watchers, but I wasn't losing on Weight watchers before!). May be worth a try for you. For me it has been a miracle drug.
Post often and ask lots of questions. There is always someone willing to help out.

I was just recently diagnosed with PCOS as well. My first ob/gyn said "well i dont know what a polycystic ovary is..." i was like well hmmm JERK! Any way i'm trying the south beach diet. It's what my OB/GYN suggested, he told me that cutting the carbs and sugars would help me lose the weight. Hope this helps. PM me if you have any questions.
Hi deesh76
It was an insulting way to find out. I too had gone to that intial endo to see if I had thyroid or diabetes or something that would make sense of how my body had taken a dramatic turn from how it haad previously been. Some Drs really should be out of practice and for the amount we pay for healthcare they should care a little more and atleast stay updated in their field. Thanks for the great hello.
Chris
I'm sorry you had to put up with a stupid doctor like that! Check out the thread on where to find a good doc. Being an endocrinologist, they should know more about pcos and how it should be taken seriously. It stems from the endocrine system, and in order to help with the symptoms, they need to help you get your hormones straight. You might find luck w/ a gyn, but in my case, I didn't have any help from them. Huggs and hope you get the help you need! Try these, maybe it could help. http://www.soulcysters.net/find-doctor/ http://www.soulcysters.net/recommend-doctor/
