Hi, first let me introduce myself. My name is Tricia, I'm 25, and I was dx with PCOS in May of 2006. I had suspicions that I had it, and asked my Dr about it at a routine exam. She ordered up a series of tests and confirmed that I do infact have PCOS. I was really upset about it at first, but now I'm just more disheartened than anything. My Dr changed my BCPs to Yasmin, I was on orthocyclen for the past 7 years.
So here's my question....
When I got the dx, the Dr just switched my BCPs. She told me that was all that I needed to do until DH and I are ready to TTC. Well, we've been talking and we want to start trying in December. I have a Dr's appointment in August (a follow up because she changed my BCPs and to check on my blood pressure). Should I tell her then that we want to TTC in December? Should I be taking Met even if I'm not TTC? I guess the problem is I don't know what to ask her. She told me that when were TTC she would refer me to an RE, but how far in advance of actually TTC do I go to an RE?
Sorry, I don't know anything about going to an RE. My ob-gyn done everything for me so I was never refered to one! I am sure there are plenty of other cysters here that can answer your question.
As far as Met goes, that isn't a pill to help you TTC, so I'm sure it would be ok to take it now.
Good Luck to you.. Look forward to seeing you around the boards

I would say to see the RE as soon as possible!
Tell your Doctor in August that you want a referral because you have decided to TTC.
I am sure that they will set you up on whatever it takes to help you have a baby!!
By the way I conceived on Metformin alone! Perhaps it can work for you as well!
GOOD LUCK!!

Argh! lol! First, welcome here! Sorry, I'm really frustrated with docs who just stick cysters on the pill without considering other options! (IMHO -- but I hate the pill.) Check out exercise and an IR diet first. Consider Met, with the advice of a knowledgeable doctor, in conjunction with diet and exercise. Check out the advice on the diet/exercise/ttc/met boards; there'll be lots of cysters who can help you. I don't know about the RE because my gp won't refer me to one. Hope that helps!

Thank you all for your help... I really appreciate your quick responses.
one-hit-wonder - I was okay with the BCPs... I had been on them forever, not only to regulate, but to prevent pg. So I was fine with staying on them then. Now that we're considering TTC, it makes things more difficult for me. My DH is a type 1 diabetic anyway, so we already follow a low carb diet, and have for years. Diet and exercise alone were not enough to regulate me, hence the BCPs.
