Default New to PCOS and Scared?

Hi all. I was just diagnosed with PCOS yesterday and it's all very overwhelming.

I'm 20 years old and I never thought that my "symptoms" were actually symptoms of something bigger than normal teenage hormones running rampant. Irregular periods were always attributed to stress or my dancing. I just have a few hairs on my chin that I have to pluck twice a week. As for weight, I always thought that I was a strange apple shape but I told myself a genetic predisposition to stomach storage was to blame. But when the doctor listed all the symptoms to me and I realized I fit every category to some degree, it was frightening. I never would have thought that my hypoglycemia and depression could be something bigger than what they are.

My main concern right now is getting healthy, but I'm worried about long term issues like fertility. I never really wanted kids, but now I feel like I lost something vital to being a woman. I know it's not impossible to get pregnant but the task seems daunting.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you all for posting and sharing your experience with new people like me. It helps to know that I'm not alone, even though I feel like I'm the only person in the world who has the syndrome.

I'm new to PCOS in the sense that I was diagnosed yesterday, but I've known that I've had it for years -- I just couldn't find a doctor who would take me seriously until now.

Regarding fertility: I get my period about once a year, and have every symptom of PCOS there is... and I have a five year old son. It can happen.
