Default New to PCOS and the site

Hello all, I was SOO happy to find this site. I have known something wasn't quite right for the last 4 or 5 years, but was told by various doctors that it was everything from early onset menopause to Nothing at all.

I am 33 years old. I had almost every symptom on the lists that I found on line about PCOS - odd hair growth, weight gain in the mid-section, acne, missed periods (7+ months at a time with out a pd), dark patches under arms. I finally went to a new primary care phys. and as soon as I told her the symptoms and that I had missed 7 pds, she sent me directly to a GYN.

As soon as he came into the room and asked me what was going on with me...I told him and his first words were "sounds like PCOS". After Ultrasounds and bloodwork, it was confirmed. My hormone levels were completely out of whack, my ovaries were 2 times the correct size as was my uterus. He gave me something to kick start my period...that was NOT fun. I have gone back every 6 weeks for follow ups. After i finally had a period, I started on BC. Did the first round for 2 cycles, but with no real significant changes. So now we are trying a different pill. He said if this one doesnt produce a more noticable improvement, we will have to try something else.

I am nervous about all of this more than I would normally be, because of my family risk of Cancer. My mother had uterine cancer at 26 and my great grandmother had ovarian cancer.

My current GYN said that one reason the other docs I saw may have not looked at PCOS as a serious possibility was because I didnt have problems with fertility.

I got pregnant very easily....but I was 17 when I had my first child and 22 with my twins. My issues didnt begin until I hit my late 20's.

Right now the biggest annoyance is the hair. The acne is a bit better...etc but the hair.....AHAHAHAHAH.

Started on a diet...down 8 lbs so far.

Any info for coping would be greatly appreciated
