I have had some problems recently that are really worrying me and was wondering if any of you have had any problems like this and what you found out.
To begin with, I woke up yesterday morning feeling great. Usually it takes me an hour to join the living, but yesterday i felt great as soon as my feet hit the floor. My sister had gone to get out weekly sonic breakfast...scrambled eggs for the dogs toaster sandwiches for us. Half way through breakfast i began to get a headache. I thought it was a normal headache, which i get quite often ( like 3-4 times a week). A little later, like 10 or 10:30 am i started to get nauseated, which has happened before. A little later after that I noticed that my eyes werent focusing right and were a little blurry. I told my mom what i felt and so she said that i needed to take my bloodpressure. So i went to get the monitor that she uses and we tested my bloodpressure. The first test read 234/150, we didnt believe it so we did it again the second was 231/151. So she tested hers and it was normal 130/81. So we knew it wasnt the machine. Of course thats wayyyy to high, so she said for me to call into work and that maybe if i layed down for a little bit it would help. So i did. She woke me up like an hour and 15 minutes later and told me that she had scheduled an appointment with her PCP, (i havent been here long dont have one yet) we had the appointment at 3:00, this was now like 1:30 pm. So we did my bloodpressure again and it came back 199/100, which is better but still way too high. So we left for the doctor. When we got there and waited, of course filled out the 300 pieces of paper that are required to see a doctor. They finally called us into a room aroung 3:15. They attempted to weigh me first. She stood me up on the scale and slid the weights all the way to the right, so the scale would read 399lbs...the max. It didnt work. I know im fat but dang. She said the scales were probably broken. So that made me feel really fat. The nurse did the normal. She took my temp, a perfect 98.6, which is wierd becuase i live in phoenix and it was like 120 yesterday, but anyways she took my bloodpressure and it came back somewhere around 150/100...still better but too high. So we waited on the doctor to come in and when he finally did like half an hour later, he looked over the info and asked some questions. He then decided to take my bloodpressure himself. I dont think he knew what he was doing becuase he did it in both arms twice. He said he always got 130/90...which is rediculous becuase his nurse got a completely different reading withe the same cuff 1/2 an hour ago. Anyways, he looks over his information and then starts to scribble on his prescription pad. He ordered bloodwork, cbc, cmp, lipids, sugar, cholesterol, thyroid and kidneys (becuase im holding water). That was all for bloodwork. Then he also gave me 2weeks sample for low dose bloodpressure medicing that also contains a diuretic. I think its called avalide. He told me not to work again until monday and wrote me a note for work. He also wanted for me to go for an MRI of my head becuase " a person so young shouldnt be having headaches like you are". And ofcourse im fat so i wont fit in a closed machine. So we looked for an open machine and couldnt find any. The ones we did find were booked solid for a week and he wanted it today(yesterday) or tomorrow(today). Well we couldnt find any. So we opted for a upright MRI. It is pretty cool. So we found that clear out in BFE that could see me tomorrow(today). So we went home and I began my prescription. I felt fine the rest of the night. We went to get my MRI done today at 3:15 pm. I was nervous cuz im a little chlosterphobic but i ended up being ok. I went in and it took like an hour. They did most of it and then came in and gave me an injection of contrast, which is a hell ovva lot of stuff. Then he finished the session, which was like 10 more minutes. He got me out of the machine and told me to wait in the lobby and he would bring out the films. So i did and he brought them out to me. When we left to go home i felt pretty good. My injection site is a little sore now but oh well. Tomorrow i get to go have the labwork done and then I go back to see my PCP on saturday. We will see what happens.
I am so sorry it is so long, but i kind of need to vent. Thanks for hearing me cysters and let me know if any of you can shed some light with similar personal experiences.
Hi starrgazzer,
Sorry you have been going through a lot. I have not had problems w/ high bp (except when I'm at the dr!) but do have headaches sometimes. I was diagnosed w/ migraines back in 2003 and at that time we felt they were due to the bcp I was taking. I don't have migraines nearly as often as I did then. I do tend to have persistent headaches, sometimes I'll have a "low-grade" headache for 2 or 3 days in a row. They are almost always around the time of my period. Sometimes a day or two before, sometimes only during my period. I like Imitrex for the migraines but it is so expensive! For the "regular" headaches I really like the Advil liquigels. I think they work faster than the regular Advil.
Hope everything works out and you find a good dr.

thanks for the reply. I thought of the whole hormones-period thing about the cause for the headaches but i havent had a period in over a year. My doctor thinks its stress but thats why he ordered the MRI, to rule out anything else. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it!
starrgazzer,
Have you found out anything from your MRI yet?
I don't know if this has anything to do w/ your headaches, but when I used to skip periods I did have lots of "period symptoms", I would have the cramps, bloating, etc. just like I had my period, only I never got my period! I hope that you will find a great dr. soon so you can get your cycle back on track.
Hang in there,
Jenny

Sounds like your doctor has done the right thing! You definately had a migraine. I know what they're like, but your blood pressure results are weird and definately warrant investigation. My Gp told me that if I EVER had a migraine with blurry vision, loss of balance etc I needed to see someone ASAP, especially since I was on the BCP. That's one of the reasons I stopped taking it! Since you aren't on any meds, you've done the right thing. I imagine they are looking for potential blood clots which of course are a nasty business. Relax and take it easy. I would do anything strenuous, anything at all. I would sit and veg on the couch in front of the tv. Or sit at your computer and read heaps of soulcysters stuff! Good luck and I hope that you are feeling better soon.

Hope your feeling better now. Wow- I have never heard of a young person having such high blood pressure.
Your Dr seems to be doing a good job. If your period gets back on track maybe you won't have as many symptoms.
Good Luck.

Thanks soooo much everyone for your support. I did get the test results back from the MRI and he said that everything is fine and my mom says I "have all my marbles". The bloodwork came back fine also. Thyroids fine as well as my cmp. The only thing that was wrong was my bloodpressure and he prescribed me Avolide(sp?). It is partly for blood pressure and partly for water weight gain. All i knos is I pee alot and my bloopressure is not as high. He seemed to think the headaches were a result of high bloodpressure and the bloodpressure was brough on by stress. So Yipeee!! But atleast i am getting that aspect of my life under control. Thanks again cysters!
I'm glad you're feeling better! Also, I'm glad you're being medicated for your hypertension (high blood pressure)! Blood pressure over 200/100 is very dangerous and could cause lots of problems!
(This is for everyone) If you ever have a sudden headache, blurred vision, weakness (especially on one side more than the other) or dizziness, you should seek medical attention immediately! If you're having a neurological emergency (like a stroke or "mini-stroke"), getting treatment quickly after the onset of symptoms can lessen the damage. Call your doctor or go to the nearest emergency room! Don't assume it's a migraine!
Chronic headaches are the most common symptom of hypertension. Uncontrolled hypertension can cause stroke, renal (kidney) failure, and heart disease, among other things.
Heart disease is the number one killer of women! There's a reason it's called the Silent Killer!
Take care of yourselves!

Thanks soooo much everyone. I am doing ok. Unfortunatly i had an allergic reaction to my avalide today and now i get to start over. I guess Im allergic to Sulfur or Sulfide. It is in my medication. So now i get new meds and try to adjust to those too.
I am glad you are feeling better! I wanted to add that you should never take your bp w/one of those they have at the stores. If you are overweight and have big arms you will get a really high reading. You have to use a larger cuff to get a correct reading...just a lil FYI just in case.
yah, thanks for the advice. I do know that. I have odd arms, all the fat is at the top and it looks like i have huge bicep muscles so my ar doesnt even fit, but we did buy a large cuff for my moms machine, which is what im using now. Thanks for the advice.
