Ok, I was just diagnosed. I have been put on birth control in the past because of the possibility of cysts. I did not remain on the pill for various reasons. Now many moons later, I have been diagnosed with pcos. I was told over the phone today by, I think, a nurse. She said I had many cysts on both ovaries, and they suggested that I could begin taking the pill. I said sure, I have been down this road before, why not. Just out of curiosity tonight I decided to do some investigations on the internet to find out exactly what this is all about. WOW, they didn't tell me a lot! I am so mad I don't have time to type all I want to. I just want to scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
You can be sure I am going to be ready the next time I see my doctor. I can see I have a long road ahead of me. Thanks for reading my rant.

is the doctor you're talking about a gyno or endochronologist? My gyno told me I had PCOS, but then basically didn't tell me what to do about it or anything. She basically just gave me a pamphlet (which, by the way, I found over the weekend while cleaning out some old files. The information in there was very wrong and unhelpful!)
In fact, after talking to my gyno I was under the impression that PCOS wasn't really a big deal, it just explained my extra hair and lack of periods. It wasn't until I told my mom what the Dr said, and she researched on her own, that she suggested I visit an Endo and my whole PCOS journey began. My gyno gave me the impression it was no big deal, so I didn't think much of it or research it on my own. If not for my mom, I'd probably still be oblivious today and may have even forgotten about it!

My doctor didn't tell me anything helpful when I was diagnosed. Basically, she said that I might have trouble conceiving and that was it! When I got home and did some research I was pretty angry that she told me that I didn't have to do anything except go on BCP.

It is pretty sad that dr's don't find it neccessary to explain (in detail) to their patients what PCOS is. I find it even more sad that most of the time most dr's don't have a clue about PCOS themselves. I think it's horrible that you had to go through that. I hope it goes better when you see your dr face to face. If not, I would suggest finding a better dr, with this syndrome that is one of the most important elements to fighting this.
I would be careful with the bcps, in most cases women with PCOS find that they only mask the symptoms and do absolutely nothing about them. In some instances the bcps can contribute to some of the symptoms, especially the weight gain. So be very cautious about that. Stay intuned with your body.
