Question new and queestions lots

Hi my name is kathy and I have been newly diagnosed with pcos. I got a call from my endo's nurse and she said I have pcos and to come back n 3 months. No further instructions or anything. I then went to my gyno and she seems rather clueless. Where should I go from here? Should I insist on insulin senstitizing drugs? I am not a big fan of taking anything, I don't even take aspirin. But, I have also gained 35 lbs in 6 months even though I exercise and my diet is not excessive. I have tried the fat flush plan before and had good results. Will that work for pcos or what about the schwarzbein plan? Any good results with other plans out there? I just noticed the hirsuitism yesterday on my face. Any ideas what can help. I feel lost and any info would be greatly aprreciated.
thanks
kathy

Kathy....

I know how hard it is at the beginning to get the information that you need and want, hopefully I can help some. First of all if your Dr. is clueless about PCOS then I HIGHLY recomend getting another DR. Don't be quick to jump on any form of medication unless you do some research about it. The other forums on this site are a great resource for that. I have learned that not one PCOS'er is like another, we are all so different. I was on BCP and chose to get off of them due to the creation of more cysts that were painful, so make choices that are right for you.
I would recomend a low carb diet, research all of the ones out there and decide on what is best for you. Loosing weight and following a low carb diet will help to lower your androgen (testosterone) levels and will help with the PCOS symptoms...or so I have heard...still working on that one myself =) I recently started the IR Diet and am loving it so far. You can find out more about the different diets in the diet/exercise forum.

Over all don't give up on trying to find solutions that work for you, and never put up with a clueless Dr. you are worth more than a shrug of the shoulders. Take care of yourself, and let us al know how you are doing.

Hi Kathy!

First off, find yourself a real doctor. My doctor says medication is a must to treat PCOS but I'm sure there are doctors who will understand you.

You sound like you have insulin resistance. That means you need to take Metformin. But since you are against meds, you need to go on a low carb diet and loose those extra pounds.

And for the girly stuff (hormones and periods) I think you should go on the pill. Hormones arent something you can control with diet and exercise. The pill will clear up most of your problems. You should really find a doctor to talk about this.

Good luck
