I am new here and joined today, I wanted to say "THANK YOU" to everyone on here for their views, stories and insirational journeys.
I hve yet to be diagnosed with PCOS, I have been effectivley hassling my GP for years and finally have been allocated a Consultant and am being sent for an Ultrasound on Monday. My Gp requested an Internal Scan, but.. I was referred instead to a Consultant and he has arranged for the Ultrasound and when I nex t Menstruate I have to have more blood tests. So it's a case of going backwards to go forwards, but I am grateful that things are finally being looked at.
I wondered If anyone else has similar symptoms:- I menstruate every couple of months and when I do menstruate it's very heavy, dark and clotted. I have gained a lot of weight over the last three years.. mainly on my stomach and hips, I have low blood sugar levels an experience dizzyness, pins and needles, light headedness and a sweet, metalic taste in my mouth If I do not eat regularly. (Glucose tests have all been normal?). I have thinning hair on my head and have to shave facial and body hair every two days, I have skin tag in my armpits and groin area and patches of dark skin on the top of my thighs, stomach and back of my neck.
I had Alopecia in my 20's with several bald spots but this was diagnosed as stress and it did not return, but my hair which was thick in my teens is now very thin.
My Smear tests generally show abnormalties, and I generally have to have another test and then another which is usually ok. (I think if the 3rd test comes back with abnormalities, then further testing is required).
I have been aware that my body has not been functioning for a long time, but have been made to feel like a time waster by GP's until recently. I surmise that the increase of PCOS has meant that the medical profession are now alert to the the symptoms and more likely to take the patient seriosuly.
I hope that a diagnosis can be made soon and the Consultant sugested that PCOS may be the cause of my symptoms.
I am so glad to have found this infomative forum and want to say "Thanks".
