Smile New to soulcysters.com

Hello, My name is Marcia and I have been trying for almost 2 years. I found out I had Polycystic Ovaries four months after my wedding. I began the process of TTC at that time as well. We had a HSG which turned out normal. Began Metformin (850mg/2x a day) and two rounds of clomid (1-50mg and 1-100mg). We didn't ovulate from Dec. '06-May '08. In April '08, I was referred to a RE who wasn't very sympathetic to my situation. He basicly told me that I wasn't conceiving because I was a health risk and over-weight. He told me to consider the lap band and have some blood tests and come back. I cried my eyes out for over a month and never went back to see him. During that time I was referred to a support group (Resolve of Central Florida). I attended the first meeting by myself. I don't know if it was luck or not, but I was the only non-board member there. So, I received a whole hour of one-on-one counseling time with the Psychiatrist. She and another woman who has PCOS informed me that I didn't have enough tests ran on me and that I really needed to find another doctor. In May '08, my husband and I decided to take a little break. We enjoyed our summer visiting with family, taking a cruise for my 30th Bday, surprising my grandmother at her 70th Surprise party and attended the Coke Zero 400. About three weeks ago we decided to start back on our journey. We are fully rested this time and are better educated (from all my research!) in PCOS. We have also sought the expertise of a wonderful RE that we adore. She is amazing and is great at explaining things in NORMAL PEOPLE terms for my husband and I to both understand. She has since ran my insulin levels (which were slightly elevated), my hormone levels (which aren't back yet) and a Day 3 PCOS Panel (which is not back yet). I didn't even know there was a blood test for PCOS!!! This past Friday we went back to here the results of the insulin test and to hear her idea's on our next step. She has prescribed me Letrozole (5mg) to begin on days 3-7 of my cycle. I will then return on day 10/11 for a U/S to check for follicles. If things look ok she will then have me do a shot of ovidrel on my own. (I'm nervous to give myself the shot! yikes!) I'm also working myself up to 1500mg of Metformin per day. I started the 500mg today. So, we are just waiting for AF to arrive so we can start the process. Hopefully, this will be all it takes and we will have our bundle of joy by next summer. Wish us luck!

I am excited to join this board as I feel it will be nice to have support at my finger tips at any time. I love my support group, but I wish it was more often then once a month. I look forward to speaking to you all and hopefully watching all of your journey's progress with mine.

~Marcia~

Hi Marcia!
I am very new to the PCOS world, so I actually have some questions for you. I recenlty took a glucouse test, and a diabetes test. Through ultrasound we could see the cysts on my ovaries, & I remember him saying there were three things to look for. Anywho. I dont have diabetes (yah!) and I dont' have a issue with glucouse(yah), but what is the metformin for? I've read and read but maybe someone in person explaining. Also I've done rounds of Clomid before I knew I had PCOS, currently on Provera, hoping for round 2 of Clomid followed with a IUI....
I hope that we can help each other, there aren't support groups in OK like yours in Florida. Oh & I weight 185 pds, and I had a doctor tell me 3 months ago that I was so overweight that she recommended a support group for over weight women!! It was a nutrition class! Flat out told me she wouldn't help, but I was so huge that she sent me away!! There are some mean mean mean people out there, but don't let them get you down! No dream in unreachable......

Hey Ladies! I am also new to this. I was dx with PCOS a month after my hubby and I got married last year....It's not fun! Metformin did not work for me...BC brought back AF and I am on a 28 day cycle...My specialist said it was okay to TTC, and if by March we don't conceive naturally she mentioned taking clomid. This is all new to me and is very aggravating...

Welcome Marcia!

What difference when you find a doctor who understand you and is willing to work with you! I am still at the point where I know I have PCOS but my doctor isn't willing to diagnose me since my blood work doesn't fully show I have PCOS. I had never even heard of a Day 3 PCOS Panel!

You'll find a lot of knowledgeable people here. If you are TTC head over to the Infertility and TCC boards... there's many tips there!

Amy: I am using Met to help reduce my insulin intake. A lot of women with PCOS use it to help eliminate some of the symptoms.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome!!!
