Question New to spiro..Questions..

Hello everyone..

I've had PCOS for going on 3 years but probably had it longer than that.
My doctor just put me on 1000mg of Met. a day and 100mg of spiro a day, along with my cheap bcp (sprintec?) i get at walmart (no insurance!). I was just curious about everyones success on the spiro? The oil has been less since i've been on the drug for a week but the acne got worse! But i think me tanning had something to do with it(i stopped)?! If anyone has any suggestions or comments i would love it! Thanks!
xoxo

If I remember right, the first time I was on Spiro it took a while before I noticed a huge difference. But... I DEFINITELY noticed a difference when I went off it, so I know it WAS helping! Hang in there!

Spironolactone definitely helped me a lot. It did take awhile for it to kick in, though. Was at least a couple of months, I think because it has such a short half-life. Just be patient, the time will come before you know it!

I tolerate it well too, have never had any side effects. Just peed a lot more at first when I started taking it since it's a diuretic.

Thanks everyone! My face is looking better than it did! I think it was the tanning. It made my face more red and put more emphasis on the acne. But now I'm noticing a difference. And yes..i do pee a lot! My co-workers are probably thinking i have some sort of problem...

ive been on spiro since 2001. I take 100 a day. My endo said that it takes 9-12 months to get to maximum result. It did mess up my periods when i first started it, but they soon went back to my normal

Thank you! Yeah it made me really sick but my endo said the same thing. I guess I just have to be patient.

Hi there!

I've been on spiro for almost five months now and I love it! It will take a bit to really notice big improvements in acne. I've spoken to many others who take this medication for acne and they've all said that you'll noticed a dramatic improvement in the six month mark.

Even though I am on these pills, I do still get the occasional pimple but that's normally when I'm on my period. Not only that but I've found that they've regulated my period somewhat. I know the normal is suppose to be every 28 days but now that I've been on spiro, I've been getting my period every 33 days(I'm not on a BCP at the moment). It's nice to know when that nasty thing is going to make an appearance! lol

To those who said that spiro makes you sick, are you eating something before you take them? The pharmacist told me that people may become nauseous from spiro if they don't eat anything before taking them. I've always had something to eat with these pills and I've never felt nauseous from them.

Spiro did make me nauseous because the directions said to take it with a snack. I'd feel like crap after an hour of taking it. This past week I've taken it at lunch. No nauseous!

Just an update:

Its been almost a month since I've started taking spiro and I have pretty much no oil on my face! The red patches are gone..acne still here (around my chin and jaw line the most) but I just started using clinque's acne stuff and its working great. But that could be short lived. Does anyone else have that problem with face cleansers? I'd buy these acne packages and they would work for about a month then my face would get use to it and go back to being acne filled! This happens with every medication I've ever used! Its annoying!
I was wondering if I should start using B-complex as well? Good idea?

I am new to Spiro as well. I have only been on it about a month or so. I did notice that I had a horrible breakout when I first started. However, not my skin is clearer than its been in awhile. I have also noticed a slow down in the growth of my facial hair.

The annoyance I'm having is I'm having breakthrough bleeding. This month I have bleed for all except about a week. I'm glad to read someone say this gets better because I already feel like I can't take that part.

i was on spiro for a number of years, and recently went off it at the behest of a new endocrinologist last fall. i just want to say that i empathize with your feelings of frustration. at the time, she also switched me from modicon birth control pills to yasmine, so i don't know if it's the yasmine or the lack of spiro that's doing it, but i've just reached my breaking point...since she changed my pharmaceutical regimen, i've put on weight, been breaking out...it's just horrible, and so upsetting. people i confide in don't really understand, because a few pounds and a few pimples don't seem like such a big deal to them. but for people like us who have been coping with these issues for so long, it was such a HUGE EXISTENTIAL RELIEF to for once be the perfect weight, with (mostly) good skin, and a (typically) stable mood. i wish i had never seen this new endocrinologist. everything was great then, and i don't think she'll let me go back on the spiro...
