Sleeptalking: *HUGS* Why did she take you off the Spiro!?!
aww, thanks cindy!
she took me off because of the recent animal studies which suggest that spiro might be carcinogenic when used long-term or whatever. the studies are totally inconclusive, but she's a bit risk averse and doesnt want me taking the spiro unless it's totally necessary since i've been on it for several years now. (nothing to worry about though...chances are it's fine to take spiro, especially if it's only for a few years. i think people have posted about those studies in more detail elsewhere on these boards, so definitely read those posts before getting concerned at all.) in any case, i totally understand and appreciate my doc's reasoning for taking me off the spiro, but it's still really frustrating not to have all the benefits of it.

Ahhh.... Ya know breathing is carcinogenic too. Maybe I'll just stop doing that.
I love my Spiro. I was off it for like 5-6 months and my skin was MISERABLE. I felt like someone dumped baby oil all over my face, my husband didn't want to touch my back because it was so slimey (who can blame him!?), and I was breaking out cystically all over my face, neck, and back. I would beg to get it back if you're so miserable. If your endo won't prescribe it, try your OB/GYN or a dermatologist. I was actually prescribed it by a derm BEFORE I was ever diagnosed with PCOS. Good luck and hang in there. I bought some Clean & Clear oil absorbing sheets and tehy worked SUPER WELL.

These pills are magic!
After my AF my face has been looking the best I've ever seen it!! And I'm only on the second month of pills! It might be the combo of met. and bcp as well but this is a so great! now..if only i could lose a 20lbs i will be overjoyed!!!
So sorry sleeptalking, that really sucks that she took you off and just messed up your regimen. I know for the last 4-5 months I have been doing nothing but try different BCP and face washes and dermatologists, but now I feel like I am getting on a rhythm of good meds. It's so important to find what works with you and your body and stick with it. If I was you I would give it some time and see what happens, if you don't like it and it's not working for you, then I would demand to be put back on it. good luck, I feel for you!
cindy and luckyroo, thanks so much for your kind words and support. an update: my endo said that she "can't see any reason to put [me] back on the spironolactone" but she did take me off the yasmin and put me back on the pill i was on before (modicon/nortrel/necon), and things have already improved a lot. its impact on my skin/body hair/weight has yet to be seen, but my mood has improved dramatically (or rather, my mood is is infinitely more stable/rational/positive, as it was before the yasmin), and i already feel less bloated. i'm just hoping my weight redistributes to the shape i've had my whole adult life (although i'm sure my boyfriend doesn't, lol) and that my skin goes back to breaking out only once a month. i can deal with the nonstop hair removal if everything else goes back to normal...
