I took my first met tonight at 6:30. I am trying to read as much as possible about met so i know what to expect. do have a ? about suppliments. read that people taking met should take extra vit. B and calcium plus mulitvite. they dont react bad to each other? So guess i will just keep taking them...well will have to get the calcium...each morning like i always do. Anything else i should take to help w/any symptoms? Guess i should wait till i get the symptoms before asking for help shouldnt i? lol

This is my first post and I just joined the site. I am very upset about having PCOS as well as a grapefruit sized fibroid! I have been taking Metformin (1500mg) daily since September and I finally got my period in November and again at the end of December. This was the first time in a year and a half. I am trying to conceive but I am not sure it's even possible. I have so many questions and concerns about everything. My first concern is the side effects of Metformin and how long do I take it until it makes me regular? Has anyone had luck with this medicine and conceiving?????

So I just took my first Metformin pill today. My OB is starting me out low at 500mg for the first 2 weeks then up to 1000mg just to make sure that it doesnt effect me in a bad way. See my problem is a little backwards really, i have NO problem getting pregnant, with my last pregnancy it took 2 1/2 weeks and the other one was exactly almost to the day 3 months before. Sometimes I get my period every month but never EXACTLY 28 days. Sometimes I do sometimes I dont, sometimes they are HEAVY sometimes they are hardly nothing!! Its very strange. But my ob did suggest that I be careful because this medicine might just work for me to get pregnant again! Im so glad that I figured this out. So glad that I dont have to worry anymore!! So now its just these pills! And come to find out my step father takes the SAME things...no wonder he has bad gas LOL

Hiya! I'm going to take my first dose (EVER!) of Met tonight after supper. I have finally finally been diagnosed with PCOS. Am scared. What is even more weird is that no one in my family has PCOS, BUT (a big BUTT - just kidding) both my mom and uncle have really high chlosterol caused by "fatty liver". From this thread, I see that fertility issues could be related to this! ...You learn something new everyday!!! Gosh. I'm going to bug everyone here with lots of questions.

Cross your fingers for me.

Later, ladies.

I am amazed more and more each day! My drs never told me that my PCOS, Type II Diabetes, Fatty liver and thick patchs on the back of my neck were ever related! As a matter of fact I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 14, a fatty liver when I was 24 and diabtes when I was 26! It's only since losing 84 pounds that my fatty liver is normal and my diabetes is gone! Of course I will always have PCOS I think!!

Thanks for the info. I will never forget the night the dr called me it was 10:00pm and he said You have a fatty liver! I asked what does that mean and he replied that I need to lose weight! Gee thanks!!!

Exclamation Both?!

I was born with thyroid resistance hormone disease and have been going to a endocrinologist for years and not once did anyone wonder why my problems with acne, weight gain, missed periods, etc. have come from anything else other than TRHD. Just last week I was really worried that something was really wrong. It was the first time that I have gone more than two months with no signs of a period. I went to see the gyno for the first time and before I even had the exam he precribed Metformin. I found out that I had been tested for PCOS before and never got the results back but I was really worried when I found out that I had been living with it for a while and never had been medicated. Now that I am on the medication I am feeling great and my life is finally going up hill! Thank you Metformin!

I am also TTC. I've been on 1500mg of Metformin since August. I've only had one 'natural' menstrual cycle. Although I have not let me cycles go past 35 days since ultrasounds showed no developing follicles. I've read that it has been very effective for many people though. I haven't ever been tested to see if I'm even Insulin Resistant. I seem to lack some of the classic symptoms - my body mass index is normal but I sure do crave the carbs.

I've tried Clomid and Repronex (FSH) injections with no luck. Now, we're taking a month off. Like you, I'm trying to learn from other's experience. I just keep praying that we will be blessed with a baby. I do anything or try any remedy to make this happen!

Hi,
I'm new to this board and new to PCOS. I'm still not even sure that I have PCOS. My moon time is extremely irregular, so we were having a hard time conceiving. My dr. put me on clomid, but it didn't work. When he tested my blood he realized that my glucose and insulin levels were too high. He really didn't explain much to me, but he did put me on metformin. I did the research myself. The day I took my first dose of metformin (500mg), I got my period! It's my first regular moon time ever!! Could anyone please fill me in on PCOS, metformin and fertility? I have so many questions, but I don't know where to begin. Oh yeah, the other thing is I don't have any other symptoms of PCOS except for irregular moon times and my high insulin. Any information would be helpful, Thanks!

I know you posted this a while ago, so not sure if you still need your question answered.

It seems like there are so many people taking metformin in combination with something else. Even my sister-in-law (who has PCOS) is taking metformin. Does anyone know why a dr. would or would not prescribe metformin in combination with something else...or by itself. Just confused!

Has anyone ever heard of Glyciphage. My DR said he will be giving me a prescription for Met, but I was looking up prescriptions by mail and this one came up. Any idea if the two are related?
