you have no idea how happy i am to read that.
i was just diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver disease. the only thing i was told about it was that i was too fat. i'm 2 1/2 stone overweight, and i know thats not ideal (compared to the rest of my family, i'm skinny).
I actually cam out of my gynae appointment really upset and very annoyed that i'd been made to feel really fat. the doc there took great pleasure in showing me that i'm 'class 1 obese' and that i really have to get my weight under control because its affecting my liver now.
at least now i know that my weight may be a factor, but certainly not the only one as i am insulin resistant and am about to have yet another glucose tolerance test because my endo thinks i might be diabetic.

Today was my first day on Met (500mg, once a day) and the side affects were pretty mild. My stomach felt a little weird and I felt kind of like I was going to vomit, luckily I didn't. I found by drinking a lot of fluids and taking a short nap made me feel much better. I really hope Met works for me!

I thought that my fatty liver symptoms were unrelated to my Pcos struggles. Once again it looks like everything is interrelated. Its hard to understand why a women can have all these signs and still go undiagnosed for 5 years. Uggh!

Yes~ I was diagnosed w/Fatty Liver after getting really sick on vacation last fall. It felt like severe gas right under my ribcage. I was throwing up right after eating anything. My dr. told me not even to have 1 drink, and stay away from otc pain meds.

So...how long would it take an elevated ALT to harm you?

When I was diagnosed, my ALT was 48...five years later, it's 64. It's always been assumed that I have fatty liver, as all liver DISEASE tests have come back clear. I JUST filled my Met prescription four days ago, and I was incredibly excited to have it again. My OB ran a full panel just to be safe, but I got a letter from her today saying to not take the Met and follow up with my regular PCP.

The problem is that our insurance runs out in a week, and I can't get in to see the PCP before then. Does anyone think I'd be safe just taking the 1500 mg of Met (what I'm working up to) for six months, then getting my labs done again?

I'm frustrated to the point of tears - I can't lose weight without Metformin, but I can't take Metformin to help me lose weight!

That's AWFUL! I weigh 205 and I would get seriously P*d if my gyn was talking to me like that. It's all about how you are built. I see these women on "The Biggest Loser" and they are like 212 and look awful, but me at 205, I don't look bad at all. It depends on your structure, height, how you carry it etc. I am 205 but wear a size 15 and I am 5'6". But no matter what, trying to make you hate yourself as a motivation to working out isn't going to work. It's depression that has a lot of women eating through their pain. What a jerk!! If he wanted to motivate you, there are other ways than telling you that you're fat and showing you on the obese scale. If there was a chart for levels of insensitivity, he'd be in the "over and beyond" category too!
I hope you lose the weight for your health and your self esteem, not because some insensitive pompous man tells you to. WTG on your 5 lbs so far. With PCOS its hard to lose one, let alone 5 so good job.

I agree. My Gyn was a little harsh on me about my weight in December (I'm 5'3" and 224lbs). I know I am very overweight but she made me feel awful... especially because it was the appointment that was the final decision on if I was going to get Clomid. I went home and seriously considered getting another doctor. BUT I gave it some time... and I decided to give her one more chance since I always go in at the end of the day and she is usually very busy and frazzeled by then. I just saw her last week and her attitude towards me and my weight and TTC was completely different. She still recommends I loose weight, obviously, but she was nto harsh at all and took the time to tlak to me and find out what I wanted to do and immediately agreed to the Met.

Anyways, I guess what I am saying is I know that sometimes doctors say things and they hurt. But keep in mind that the could of been having an off day and things just came out the wrong way. Give your doc one more chance. If he is an a**hole again get a new doc.
