Default New "thin cyster" here

Hey all

I am new to this just DX last week. I am 5"6' and 130lbs. I am starting Glucophage and fermera. I was also told that my uterus is to thin for a pregnancy. Any ideas on how to thicken my lining? I have a HSG friday then another US in 2 weeks.

I am nervous about never getting PG. I need to hear some success stories to put my mind at ease.

Thanks
Amy

Hi Amy-

First, LOTS of PCOS ladies get preggers!! Don't get too down just yet! It's not always an easy process but it's worth it. Getting a DX is an important step, I was 1.5yrs into the process before I got a DX of PCOS. I conceived 11 months after my DX but that included a little downtime when I switched docs & when I had a leftover cyst that we had to wait for it to get smaller.

Second, I took estrogen to thicken my lining. Ask your doc if you should take that. I don't remember the name of it, but I had an insertable ring (kinda like the birth control ring) that I had to use during a few of my cycles. I also took estrogen in pill form for other cycles. I preferred the ring b/c the pills had to be taken 3x/day.

I am new to knowing I have PCOS too--also about a week ago. I was really surprised. I did a lot of reading after I found out, and it seems the pregnancy rates are pretty good if PCOS is the cause of infertility, more likely than not. It took 13 months to conceive DS in 2006, and those months were so stressful and sad and I was also really scared I'd never have children. It seemed like all my coworkers and friends were getting pregnant without even trying. I even avoided the baby food isle in the grocery store. I was finally able to get pg on the 2nd round of clomid, and now he's 2. I think DH and I appreciate our son more after having such a struggle to have him.
We have been ttc #2 for almost a year, and clomid hasn't worked for me so far. I just saw a RE last week and he told me that I do have pcos--something I wasn't expecting since I'm normal weight. We're planning to try increasing clomid dose, but I'm taking a break to exercise and lose a little weight first, hoping that will help things, and I need a break from the stress.

I hope these treatments work well for you, Amy. Did you try anything else before the Femera and Metformin you're starting now?

I took Provera twice and never started my period. Then two months later I started and took a round of Clomid. I did ovulate. I am so irregular its hard to figure out when to start meds.

was there a certain reason they changed you to Femera after just one Clomid cycle, or different doc with different style. Just wondering. My RE never mentioned Femera, just continued the Clomid at higher dose. Let me know how it works, that might be the next step for me if I can't ovulate on clomid this time around.

New dr, RE and Clomid can thin your uterine lining and mine is thin to begin with. I start Femera in 4 days then next week I have an US. I'll let you know.

I am new to all of this too, but I just wanted to wish you all the best. It is so daunting to have a "condition" when you are otherwise healthy, especially if you want to conceive. I was just diagnosed as well and am going on Prometrium. If my cycles don't become regular with that and we are unable to conceive, then my doctor will put me on Clomid. We'll see!

Amy-
I am also in Louisville and was just diagnosed with PCOS last week and am at a normal weight. I was wondering who your doctor is and if you feel comfortable with the treatment you are getting? My gyn recommended taking estrogen, progesterone, and then femara to get pregnant, but my regular doctor thinks I should see an endocrinologist to treat the PCOS before trying to get pregnant. My gyn told me there were no risks and not to worry, but after reading the information she gave me and reading online I am concerned. She also didn't check my blood sugar levels, which concerns me.

Can anyone tell me if the symptoms progress once you get pregnant? I'm worried about hair growth/hair loss especially.
Thanks!
Anne

I didn't have much in the way of symptoms before I was pregnant, so I didn't notice a change during pregnancy, but afterwards, after I had gained 60 lbs, I did get some more hair growth, and I am having more difficulty ttc #2 than with my 1st child. I am not responding to clomid as well at all. I don't know if my PCOS symptoms have worsened because I am a bit heavier than before (I've lost most of those 60lbs, but not all), or if something changed during my first pregnancy.

I had gotten on the pill when I was very young (14-15) because I had very erratic bad periods. I am now 30 and went off the pill 6 months ago to try and conceive. When I didn't have a period after 3 mos, my gyn had me try prometrium for 2 months to start my period, but it didn't work. I was diagnosed with PCOS after an ultrasound revealed the cysts. I guess being on the pill for that long kept my PCOS at bay, because I had an US 2 years ago for fibroids and my ovaries were completely normal - small and no cysts. The tech compared it with my new US and it's amazing to see the difference - in just 6 months they are very enlarged and covered w/ cysts.

A question for everyone on the best course for treatment - I definitely want to get pg, but also want to know about what will need to be done to treat and control the pcos after I'm done having kids. I know the ob/gyn can work with me on the infertility, but my primary care doc suggests seeing an endocrinologist for long-term maintenance. I know many people are seeing RE's. Am I wasting my time just going to the OBGYN? Should I go directly to the RE? Will RE's treat you beyond pregnancy?

Seems confusing on the best course of action.

Ann,

I would see a RE to make sure you are on the right path. I go to University OB/Infertility. There are 2 drs there that were named the best in the region for infertility. They are really great. I saw Dr. Archer. She spent over an hr talking to me and my husband. They did an US the day of the consultation and starting me right away on meds. Their website is kyinfertility.com If you need any local support feel free to email me nurselky@yahoo.com

Hi Amy,
I was recently diagnosed a little over 2 months ago, and have been getting really down lately about the whole "problem". I don't think that i have a thin uterus, but i just wanted to give you support. I recently was talking to my aunt about it all and the advice she gave me was really good and simple, she said, "just stay upbeat and positive and don't let this take over you". It was then that I realized I need to keep positive and take over my life again. So, I wish you the best, and I hope you will get pg soon. ***baby dust***
