Hello everyone - just wanted to say thank you to all of you for sharing your stories and knowledge. I was diagnosed in June after a year of ttc and started on metformin. I have been on several infertility websites and just couldn't seem to find anyone else in the same boat - a newbie who has a glimmer of hope that maybe metformin is all it will take - I know, probably wishful thinking. I had no idea there was a whole site for PCOS - wish I had been here in June - the whole insulin resistance and possible development of metabolic syndrome made me panic. If anyone has any success stories, helpful newbie advice, or is obsessed with peeing on pregnany tests (I should really buy stock in the things) I would love to hear it. Thanks again!
Hey Georgia! I have to agree! I'm in the same boat as you, started met in June after about a year of ttc. I love this site and I love how Kat puts up all the research articles!
On the met-side...I swear things were different this month, reproductively speaking. I didn't do a opk, but did do the temp thing and had much more normal temps this month. I just hoped an actual egg popped out when my temp spiked! How about you, noticed any changes this month??? I am somehow missing the POAS gene...i don't like it, and way too depressing after a year of BFN's. But the stock is a great idea!

I hate POASing - and yet somehow I keep doing it anyway. I buy them in bulk through Amazon though - 25 for $9. So I might ruin my morning, but at least I don't feel too guilty about it.
Hey Georgia! Yeah, this site has been such an encouragement to me. All the information puts my mind at ease and the fact that I have the chance to talk to other women who understand helps me get through this process. I've taken a number of pregnancy tests over the last 10 months, mostly before I was diagnosed because I was all messed up symptoms wise. I've gotten very wary of POAS unless my chances are good. I'm just tired of seeing BFN!
Personally, I love my metformin. It's done wonders for me. I have energy again, I'm ovulating, and I feel better than I've felt in over a year. I count myself very blessed to have had such a good reaction to it. Hope metformin works out well for you too!

Sharky - I'm not sure if much changed for me this past month or not - didn't do an OPK either. I decided in June and July just to give ourselves a break, no OPK's, no timing, etc. For the most part, I always get AF, but my cycles are wonky, anywhere from 23-69 days over the past two years. Usually they run about 33-35 days and this month wasn't much different. But after reading some of Kat's articles, I still have lots of hope that the met will work - it looks like it might take a few months to really kick in!
I go back to the RE for lab work in September. Even though I still get AF, I apparently never ovulate since my progesterone level runs less than 1. I think they want it to be around 10. Probably why I never saw anything on an OPK Funny how things all start to make sense once you're diagnosed and really start reading about PCOS. As far as BBT, I have never done this - being a nurse with constantly changing shifts makes it difficult.
LivebyGrace - how long did it take you to feel like you have more energy? I have always felt exhausted and never really knew why - haven't felt much different so far. I have had a burst of energy the past few days so maybe I'm turning around
It took about 2 weeks after starting to really feel like I had consistent energy back. I had good days up until then. But before I started treatment, I felt horrible! So lethargic and icky feeling all the time. But now, I feel pretty good 95% of the time. Of course, right now I'm toward the end of my tww and feel awful - but that could be PMS, or hopefully the result of something great. Who knows. If my period doesn't come by toward the end of next week, I'm testing.
I hope you get that consistent energy boost soon!

Hi Georgia! This is a wonderful site, lots of support.
I know of at least one thin cyster who has had several successful pregnancies on Met alone.
For me, the magic formual was synthroid (I was slightly hypothyroid as well, though never noticed symptoms from it), Met, Clomid, and IUI. My DD was born 4/3/08. My cycles pre-pregnancy were also wonky - from about 45-63 days, but post-weaning they are back to averaging 35 days. We are trying to conceive a 2nd starting this month on Met alone, since my cycles now seem more regular.
GL to you, and just wanted to offer another success story!

Thank you for sharing your success story! I love hearing them - they give me encouragement to stick with the metformin and low carb diet (not doin' so hot today though- had a fried green tomato sandwich with fries- yum!)
Just bumping this up because I wanted to update - we had been TTC#2 on met alone and this past weekend I got a BFP!! It was only the second month of trying so we are still in a state of shock. It was actually met and preseed.
I don't see my ob/gyn until 11/2 and in the meantime am just praying the bean stays sticky. It's very different this go-round with a more "normal" or average BFP as opposed to going through clomid, IUI with the RE. I am kind of missing the extra attention and u/s but am beyond grateful to have had such good luck.
Hope you are doing well, Georgia, and baby dust to all who are still waiting for that BFP.

Hey everyone. I am new to this site and am looking to get involved in this community for some answers to a lot of unanswered questions and to get some knowledge and hope in the process. I am 25 years old, 130 lbs, 5'2''. I have been married for 1 year. I went on birth control when i was in college to help with my acne. Estrastep helped me for awhile, i was getting free samples from the dr. then it went generic so the samples stopped so my dr asked me if i would be interested in trying Yaz. I changed and after two months of getting adjusted my face was still benefitting. i decided that after about a year of being on BC that it wasnt good for my body and decided to come off of it. That was in March of 08. Then in May of 08 I got engaged and decided that I needed to go back on. I resumed Yaz at the end of May. I was married in Ocober 08. I have struggled with headaches for years but they seemed to be getting worse and worse and more frequent (migraine type) so I started going to see dr after dr. it ended up that they attributed my headaches to the BCP. they told me that i shouldnt take anything with estrogen in it for fear of blood clots. So in January I stopped the pill. every since my cycles have been totally abnormal. cycles ranged from 10 days to the current 65 days. This is the longest I have gone between cycles. We decided in january to use condoms for BC. and in August i went to a new GYN bc i just didnt think that it was normal for my cycles to be this crazy. my old dr just kept saying it was my body getting used to being off of the pill. The new DR diagnosed me with PCOS. no ultrasound... just some symptoms: acne, oily skin, few skin tags, hairy arms, irregular cycles. after that my husband and i decided not to prevent anymore for fear that we would have difficulty getting pregnant. So, currently im 4 months out with no prevention and no pregnancy. Im so scared and confused, and sad. I dont know what the next step is, I dont have any idea. Any suggestions from anyone??
I was on Yasmin for years and it was great for me but it did give me bad headaches after a while too. I would get one early in the day right around my period and it would stick sometimes for a couple days. Crushing headaches. Now that I am off it I am greatful to be free of the regular bad headaches but worried about symptoms returning.
I have only been through two cycles without BCP and everything seems semi normal. The best thing you can do I think it chart your basal body temp - it really give you a good clue into what your body is doing hormonally. I even noticed that the days that cause a dip in temp seem to cause be to be mroe moody. Seeing the chart makes me feel like I have more control.
It will also be good when you go to a doctor and have data so if you do need any sort of medication they will know where to start. I am not taking any medication and have not fallen pregnant yet either but my husband has poor sperm morphology so it may not be all me.
Good luck with figuring everything out. Thin PCOS is tricky. Knowledge is power but we have ot let go a little to sicne there are not concrete answers as those screwy hormones are slippery buggars.

Diagnosed with PCOS in 2002. Some cysts and high DHEAS. Was on BCP for 7 years (I adore yasmin). Now I am on no medication becasue I want ttc.
I recently started taking vitamins: A, D, B Complex, Folic Acid and Fish Oil
I also aim for a very low sugar and almost no simple carb diet. I run a couple times a week.
